UFC contracts are obviously far too restricting, they take all types of possibilities and freedom from the fighters.

Francis won in his MMA venture, his record speaks for itself. He fucked up a lot of really good HWs.

Dana shit on Jon for not fighting Francis right up until Francis told UFC he was not resigning. Only then did Dana shit on Francis for not fighting Jon. Dana is full of shit, always has been and always will be.

Francis has nothing to prove, he owes us nobody.

I will just agree to disagree on whether dana lost something here, nothing wrong with that.

I do agree with you about the financials possibly not panning out for Francis and that he isn't a big money maker.

It wasn't about $$$ or PPV numbers for Francis. That is clear.
It was about being on a leash and he was done with that type of contract.

Jones as HW champ? He wants one more fight and to retire if even that. The UFC HW belt went with Ngannou. Jones is an interim champ basically.

Hard to say if I agree with Frank's decision until a few years from now, we will have to see what he does or doesn't do as far as future fights and earnings. We are just speculating.

I get UFC letting him go because he isn't a cash cow and isn't from the US. I still think their HW division loses the KO king of the HW division, and that is a loss if you call yourself the best of the best. Only other KO monster is Pavlovich and they probably don't want him to have the belt because Russia Bad.

I don't think Francis fights MMA for 18 months, will try for a boxing fight while he can...then go back to MMA.

UFC should have paid them each 15 million for the fight on a one fight deal.
They would have gotten plenty from PPV.
Francis either still leaves with the belt, or Jones gains the belt himself.

I don't think UFC issue a contract like that so we miss out, a one fight deal no strings gives the fighters control and leverage.

He isn't a money maker, I agree

All he does is crush dreams, crushed old school fans(reem), crushed Mexican fans(cain), crushed the American fans(stipe)...if he carries some of those guys he might be better off, but he turned their lights off quickly and violently.

I agree he doesn't sell, part of it may be he fought in the Apex/Covid Era...many folks were arguing over whether a fight should even be allowed to occur.

I guess I agree the UFC made a good $$$ move, but I do think their HW division crown will be hollow until somebody goes on a nice HW run of victories...we both know HW runs are rare and hard to achieve.

1) Dana White will always slant his opinion towards the UFC being the best and anyone not in it is garbage.
2) Helwani has become a huge anti-BLAF guy and is like a scorned ex-wife when it comes to the Baldfather. He's usually on point with a grain of truth but he sounds like a psychotic woman who was left by her husband for a younger woman though.

You and I usually see eye to eye on most subjects, but we differ here. I don't think it's fair to lambast Francis' opponents in one sentence, diminishing how good he is, and then blame Francis for not selling PPV's against these same "old and washed up fighters".

The reality is that the UFC has never been good at marketing fighters even when they try. The only real success they had mktg a fighter who didn't do all his/her own mktg was Ronda. That was def the UFC and not her. Conor and Chael were just shit talkers and that caught people's attention. The UFC just broadcast them doing their thing. So Francis not being a shit talker, but being a destroyer, and needing legit, top notch mktg to "get him over" and the UFC failed at that.

I don't buy any of the he said she said stuff, they are always negotiating. Same goes for any claims Dana made about any fighter.

For Jon to be considered the HW champ he is gonna need some more HW wins IMO

I don't think either guy wants a loss on their record, Francis for $$$ purposes and Jon for Ego purposes...Jon couldn't have been that confident in his HW chances after his string of somewhat questionable decisions during the end of his LHW run.

I wish they fought but they aren't going to anytime soon, is what it is. HW title fights are kind of disappointing in the UFC because they take so damn long to take place...so much inactivity, maybe two fights per year for the champ but usually 3 fights per two years
