You would lose :)
I'm a fan of Ben but until I see him tested by elite fighters I'll always have my doubts and that completely reasonable. He's getting much more well rounded but I don't see him having that aggression and slams that he should with his skills. As I said it would be a great fight, not one sided at all IMO.

Who's your pick it was Hughes vs Hendricks, both in their prime?

From the last few fights I've seen its the same answer, very close but I'd put money on Hughes. Just want to say I'm the furthest thing from a Hughes fan as a whole but no denying his abilities. I think we can agree on prime Hughes meaning from his win over Newton to his loss to GSP.

We haven't really seen too much offensive wrestling from Johny given his credentials compared to how much Matt used it. Johny seems to use his wrestling more to neutralize, threaten and set pace and keep guys guessing until he starts to slow or tire then goes back to his roots as most guys do. I don't think that big punch would would be something Hughes would have to worry about given his style. Matt isn't a pocket guy and even though Hendricks delivers by closing big distance quickly I see Matt constantly circling not looking to engage in a striking battle making it tough for JH to set up and if he did i see Matt ducking under for a power double. The way Matt got dropped by BJ was a quick shot that wasn't telegraphed or expected.

Similar the the earlier fight

When Matt fought GSP it was a similar scenario as far as unpredictability. Everyone knows about JHs punching power. I think Matt was expecting a body kick he could grab because it was the lead leg of GSP attacking and didn't anticipate the HK

Matt is great at keeping away and moving, then when he finds an opening he gets ahold and it seems his power/strength is key in controlling guys from the top. As I'm writing this I'm thinking about the Hughes vs Koscheck fight. Josh is another strong based wrestler who developed a heavy punch but his was a looping OHR while Johny uses more of a straight left. Josh was successful mostly due to timing, as in later in Matts career.

If I was asked this before Johny fought GSP or Robbie I'd say Johny wins. We've seen Matt show massive heart and will in fights like Triggs were he proves he can dig deep and find a way to come out on top. Gsp vs Hughes 1 is another time were Matt was getting beat up but found a way to win iirc.

Johny has a great plan A and solid B but his last few fight that went the distance tells me he hits a wall by the 4th if things aren't in his favor.

I agree. Its fights like this that don't prove much now as Jake is out of his prime. We really need to see Ben fighting genuine top 10 guys and not fucking around with 15-25th ranked. Until then its hard to watch his fights and apply his wins and stragety against elite WWs.

Yup, I want to Ben do anything with top ten before his fans keep assuring us he could get UFC gold now. No disrespect here at all but I got to see it to believe it.

I just know there's no top 10 outside of the UFC..Dana missed the boat and we are suffering for it..

Agree but I think the boat is still easy to get, Dana just needs to make an offer that's reasonable. We all know that won't happen but its not Bens doing.

Jake may be out of his prime but he is no doubt still a top ten WW, imo. I actually think Jake might give Ben problems on the ground. Look at what he did to Maia.

Tough to call for sure. Both these guys are such specialist in their respective arts but unfortunately with such a lack of a striking game it would be a narrow audience that would find it interesting IMO.

Looking at Bens record it seems he could be deadly if he could train with somebody like Barnett. I'd like to think Ben could pick up on some catch wrestling techs that could get him some great sub finishes much quicker than say learning to put away guys with strikes trading with Pettis.
