We got caught in a few when I was a kid fishing in the creeks out past the intercoastal waterway in SC. Only one was a direct hit and it sucked all the water out of the creek branch we had pulled into to try and shelter. My cousin and I thought it was awesome, we were probably 6 and 8. My dad and uncles did not enjoy the experience. We only got slapped with the outskirts the other times. It's crazy how fast they'll pop up. They're pretty easy to avoid in open water, but when you're in a maze of creeks, some very shallow and narrow, finding the right place to go in a boat can be a bitch.
