I'm bullshitting. I knew you actually took the time out to write that, so I thought I'd be a dick and act like I didn't read it. Lol. I'm going to try that method.
I know
but my post afterwards was serious...and I did edit and add to it

it works
you may have a lil learning curve but it works on a basic setup

I cook other stuff on the hot side while the steaks get up to temp...pretty fun

Nice to be able to cook large chunks of meat...did lamb once and it was also very good, took longer

I don't think Weber ever made a Spirit-series grill with a 25 year warranty, at least not on any parts that truly matter. I'd be curious to see the model and warranty if I'm wrong.
That's what the tag said when I bought it. A few years later they cut their warranties to 10 years, I believe it coincided with their building everything in Chi-nah.

So, show of hands who here has their grill grates in upside down and didn't know until they read post and then Googled it?

Wow. Good find. Is that soup-to-nuts 25 years or just certain parts?

It's retroactive, so if you bought a grill 11 years ago, you dont have warranty. As far as I'm aware pretty much all their stuff is MIC since 2016 and MIA stuff has the minimum amount of U.S. made parts for them to be allowed to use the tag.

I have always wanted a smoker, and finally jumped in and bought a Traeger yesterday. Going to try beef short ribs tomorrow for Mother’s Day.
I realize a pellet smoker is not a “real” smoker, but I don’t need another time consuming hobby so a real wood offset smoker was a no-go.

Fuck that "it's not a real smoker" garbage. People seem to forget that when Green Egg's came out they weren't real smokers either, now that someone has one upped the tech now those dudes are all salty about it.

Let me know how you like it. Thinking about trading in my masterbuilt electric smoker for one. I am all about convenience

I had the masterbuilt smoker, I really wasnt too happy with it. Was so hard to keep temperature down chips from igniting

That's why I went gas.

Two little ones running around is not a good look.

I've bought a smoker and did a belly of pork for 3 hours. I think I will need to tweak the wood. It wasn't so strong.

But I'm up for learning

Miss smoking. I used to look forward to smoking on a Saturday morning all week. Never bought electric, it wasn't a major pain in the ass soaking the wood chips and topping them up every couple of hours.

I have a gas Weber for things like burgers and steaks. I got the masterbuilt for smoking brisket and whole chickens but its a process learning how it cooks. Its basically a outside oven with a place for wood chips

I'm not real thrilled. I dont use it alot but it was hard to figure out how it was going to cook. Havent had any fires but if you dont use the water pan it won't get up to temp at all. Plus mine is the smaller one so I have to halve a rack of ribs to get them to fit.

I do like the convenience of it. Just go out and put some wood chips in every hour and thats it. Plus i can take it places fairly easy as its light enough for me to load in my truck alone.

Had my napoleon what you would call a grill for about 3 weeks.

Its a game changer for me.

I can't wait till the lock down e ds and my family and friends come round.

Yesterday I cooked for VE day just some thighs of chicken and belly of pork.

All marinated.

It was great

I have had my Weber Q 320 for about 7 years. Best gas grill I have ever owned. Its pretty bare bones compared to some but it cooks good and I havent even had to change the burners

I agree with you but I'm not sure that's what's really driving the fanboyism.
Isn't Traeger a decades old machine? It's just now got a bigger following. And its own detractors to go with it.

I've got a Kamado Joe and think its better than the big green egg. I went back and forth. In the end, the Kamado Joe includes what the Green egg nickel and dimes you to get.

I was also looking at Traeger as I like smoking and the fuel efficiency of a Kamado is part of the reason I like it. Both allow a set it and forget it mindset, but the Kamado requires a practice to dial it in. I actual though the simple design was cool and wanted to not have another piece of tech in my house.

I can't believe anyone doesn't consider a Traeger a "real smoker". It burns wood and makes smoke. Done.

About 10 years ago when my brother and his buddies were getting Green Eggs, they thumbed their noses at low tech smokers. "These are so much easier, just set it and it regulates the heat so well!" Last summer when I was telling my brother that I've given serious thought to getting a Traeger, the same group of people responded with "Pfft, that's like using an oven, there's no skill at all."

Smokers draw the same arguments that archery does, it's actually pretty funny.
