RFA Champion Gilbert Smith signs with Bellator MMA – MMA Mad

RFA champion Gilbert Smith has officially signed a contract to fight under the Bellator MMA promotional banner MMA Mad can reveal.

Smith (12-4 MMA) was a cast member of Season 17 of the Ultimate Fighter. Picked to represent team Jones on the show, Smith would lose to Luke Barnatt in the elimination round. Smith then competed on the TUF 17 Finale show were he lose to Bubba McDaniel via submission in the third round. Following appearances in local shows, Smith found a home with RFA, where he would amass a record of 4-1 in just under a year. In his third fight with the promotion Smith challenged for the RFA Welterweight Championship and would ultimately go on to win the title, besting Benjamin Smith via arm-bar.

In his latest bout, Smith defended the RFA strap, defeating Bristol Marunde via fourth round TKO. Smith will be looking to climb the Bellator welterweight rankings and become a double promotion world champion.
