Former Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler gave his thoughts on Bellator's decision to release lightweight champ Will Brooks, and it sounds like he's not too broken up about it.

The Bellator lightweight division has had trouble finding consistency. From 2009 to 2013 it was ruled over by Eddie Alvarez and Michael Chandler. Alvarez became champion twice, winning the belt back in the second half of a fantastic two fight series with Chandler, and then (after a protracted legal dispute) he left. Alvarez took off for the UFC and left a vacant title in his wake. And that's when the trouble really started for Chandler.

He was the obvious choice to battle for the vacant title, stepping in to face rising prospect "Ill" Will Brooks. Brooks took a narrow split decision and the belt…

Hate to say it but I think Brooks had Mikes number. That second fight was brutal.

For Bellator to release a Champion is pretty dumb
Brooks was insanely talented and will do great things in whichever promotion he joins
I guess him leaving opens room for the likes of the Ken Shamrocks, Royce Gracies, and Titos of the sport

They made him an offer. He didn't accept, so they let him go.

Pretty sure you missed all details of how much of a fucking tool he is, and despite that they made him an offer, he declined and expressed his intention to move on so they released him (a favor, instead of holding him inactive under contract until it expired)

A lot of people seem to want to turn a blind eye to the details. Anything to bash bellator.

Had bellator kept brooks in limbo the way bjorn did with Alvarez, people would have still talked shit.

Simple truth is. They offered him a contract, he said no, they released him.

I was unaware of the circumstances surrounding Brooks release
I guess it makes a bit more sense
