Here's a great scene from my favorite Duke film - El Dorado.

To set the scene up - JP (Robert Mitchum) is the sheriff of the town and he turned into a drunk. The cowboys in the bar had been laughing at him earlier but he was too hung over to do anything about it - that's where all the "I want to hear you laugh" talk comes from.

If you haven't seen this movie.....I highly recommend it. Along with being a great western with The Duke, Mitchum and a very young James Caan - there are 2 smoking hot chicks in it:

Charlene Holt:

And Michelle Carey:

Problem with those groups is they fucked the communist scum whether they were communist or not.
Who were some of the notables falsely accused? I remember reading Charlie Chaplin's autobiography years ago and remember him mentioning that he was falsely accused of being a communist back around that time.

No, I've never cared enough to thoroughly research the matter, but does it matter whether or not they're "notable"? You can't fuck with someone's life just because you don't like their politics.

Apparently you can.

I'm not shedding any tears for fucking communists. If they were blackballed and had their careers ruined....

You realize you'd have been considered a communist by their loose standards, right?

I've read that Wayne was concerned with the direction that Hollywood was heading. Anti-American films. Things like that. And if I remember correctly, all that shit went down in the 50s/60s - when everyone was afraid of the communists taking over the world. It was a fucked up time.

If you watch the BBC (LOL) interview I posted, I think you can see a tinge of regret in his face. He even says "it was a different time back then".

People definitely were afraid, and their fear made them do deplorable things. Some came clean and admitted they'd made huge mistakes, others did not.

Can you imagine an actor saying this today:

"I don’t think a fella should be able to sit on his backside and receive welfare. I’d like to know why well-educated idiots keep apologizing for lazy and complaining people who think the world owes them a living."
