Former two-division champion BJ Penn suffered his seventh consecutive loss at UFC 237, dropping a unanimous decision to wily veteran Clay Guida at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

‘The Prodigy’ hasn’t officially won a fight since 2010, when he scored a first-round knockout over Matt Hughes at UFC 123. Yet, despite his slew of bad luck in the Octagon over the last nine years, Penn, the promotion’s former lightweight and welterweight champion, still feels he has the drive to compete and wants to continue testing himself in the UFC.

“I know I am on a losing streak,” Penn said in a recent interview with Chris Taylor of BJPenn.com. “I think they said it is the longest in UFC history or…

If the rape and domestic violence allegations are false, obviously he should retire.

If they are true, I hope he has a long career ahead of him. Let's match him up against Aldo, Ortega, Jeremy Stephens, maybe a Yair Rodriguez rematch. Josh Emmett has got some decent power.

There's a dozen or so intriguing fights left for him. They should do a guantlet night where he fights them all.

I don't see why there can't be options for guys like BJ to still fight but just not at the highest UFC levels.

His 'desire' I suspect is just to fight, to scrap and test himself, get out there and do what he trains for. Dat rush. You don't need to fight the absolute top guys or gun for a UFC belt to do that. He should just set up some cool fight nights in Hawaii where he gets to fight some up-and-comers to make it more fair.

Its a win-win, if he beats guys it looks good because an old man can still beat young hungry kids. Crowd would go nuts. If he loses there's no shame cuz he's old and should have some humility. Plus its good for the up-and-comer, he'd be helping kids out by giving them a W against a legend.

Aging MMA fighters should just drop their humility a bit, its really not an all-or nothing sport.

He could also just hang out front some pancake houses and wait for some shit to start and make awesome viral fight vids for the rest of his life. I bet fans would like that way more than seeing him the Octagon anyways

why BJ ? why? its not like BJ needs the money here. i get why broke ass motherfuckers who cant do anything else keep on fighting but thats not the case with BJ. he has a wealthy family. he has a ufc gym. he has a piece of shit website. he has been in some big PPVs. the guy has made and continues to make money in and outside of the ring. it is more than clear that he will never take a run at the title ever again.he might not ever win another fight either . he needs to find something else to do with his life.he is only taking damage .

I'm glad his desire is still there, it's great that he has it..... But I believe the public's desire to watch him compete in MMA is not there anymore.

If he wants to stoke those competitive fires, go compete at ADCC, or do Combat Jiu Jitsu at an EBI.... STOP with this MMA path.... PLEASE!!!

I thought he won the first two rounds against Guida, seriously. He didn’t look horrible in that fight. Just still too one dimensional.

It's heartbreaking to watch him get beat up after a few minutes other than that fluke "cinnamon roll" that tumbleweed guy beat him with in his last fight. After he got robbed in the first Frankie "Two Times" fight, he's never been the same. B.J. will always be my favorite fighter and and teh GOAT...

See, I don’t feel like he got beat up against Clay though. Siver, yes. Yair, yes. Rory and Nick, yes. But I thought he won the first two rounds against Clay with his jab & counter punching.

Not far off, I could see the argument for the 2nd.

Having a case at a decision against Clay, who by his own admission was more interested in getting the take down than anything else in the 3rd, is not a good thing. Guida wasn't trying to mangle him in there.

Maybe not, but I still thought BJ looked better than he has in 5 years. Maybe that's not saying much, and I know I'm a dick rider, but I had BJ winning that 29-28. Clay didn't do much except get jabbed and countered the first two rounds. BJ gassed and Clay had his way in Rd 3 but I still never felt like he was going to stop BJ or anything.

All of that said, I'd like to see him either fight guys in age/skill range at this point in his career, or retire and focus on his gyms & maybe do some grappling tournaments if he still wants to compete. No need to take more damage to his body if there's really no attainable goal (like a title).

1st, yes. Not so sure about the second. He just started fading ... Still "looked" better than in his last 4 fights but...once BJ starts looking up at the clock, lol it's over & he's looking for a way out.
Plus in 15+ years he still hasn't figured out how to not get pressed against a fence. Hate it when fighters don't have one go-to response for that.

He’s dropped 7 in a row and hasn’t won a fight in 9 years. The only fights he should be involved in are about what to watch on tv with his kids.
