Dillon Danis, a decorated black belt under Marcelo Garcia, was recently tasked to help out Conor McGregor ahead of his UFC rematch against Nate Diaz. The BJJ champ recently spoke about the Irishman's skill set, and he was very complimentary of McGregor's grappling.

"Conor is a great fighter," Danis told Flo Grappling. "If I was here, or if I wasn't here, he would still be a great fighter."

"It's unfair," he said about the criticism on McGregor's grappling. "Conor is amazing on the ground. One submission loss doesn’t mean anything."

"If you go to a jiu-jitsu tournament and a guy loses by submission you’re gonna say 'ok that guy sucks'? It's bullshit man. Conor is a great fighter, he’s got great jiu-jitsu. I’m having a blast here. I'm learning from him and he’s learning from me. It's a great combo."

I agree that Conor is a great fight but this statement here is off.

"Conor is amazing on the ground. One submission loss doesn’t mean anything."

The criticism is more about all three of his losses coming by submission I think, it's an obvious hole in his game. Having said that Diaz beat him on the feet which gave him the opportunity to finish him on the ground. It's always a good idea to work on your weak points but it's was Nate's boxing that most the heavy lifting in that fight.

im sure he does. I dont know why some people criticize his ground game when he dominated holloway on the ground and swept nate diaz with ease. Im sure he has improved it a lot since the diaz fight and since the duffy fight too.

Conor was DONE as soon as he got hit with the 1-2 and gassed out. Judging his ground game after that point is silly. He was out of it at that point

Really, well what is his BJJ for MMA like Dillon?

'I have no fucking idea, don't even know what that is'

-Dillon Danis

just spectacularly ridiculous that with his resources and the prestige of the job Mystic Mick hires a sport guy to teach him to grapple a Diaz brother in an MMA fight

Tbh I feel that sweep was purposely met with little resistance. I think Nate does better work off his back than he does in a GnP position. IMO that one changing of positions earned neither points towards or against their ground game.

This kind of reminds me of Edmond saying Ronda was beating up world champion boxers in sparring ...

Although I understand the words you've used and consider myself fluent in this language, I still don't understand what the question is. Help please.
'Really, well what is his BJJ for MMA like Dillon?'

That was a hypothetical follow up question from me to Dillon after I read him saying how good Mc BJJ is....

My immediate thought was 'how is this guys opinion on Conor's BJJ relevant to an MMA fight with Nate?'...

really, I am just perplexed at why Conor would go this route when bringing in new trainers.....just kind of poking fun at how completely irrelevant Dillon's opinion on Conor's sport JJ is, which is the only expert opinion he can have.

There are dozens of elite, proven BJJ for MMA guys that would love that job - he brought in a sport JJ guy from a sport JJ school/lineage to help him with his BJJ for MMA - I don't get it, at all. It screams Touchbutt 2.0

Weird but when you put it in italics, it was like "oh, I get it!"
Meh, I wouldn't fault a guy if he went to an Olympic boxer for tips and pointers to improve his game. I see what you're saying but all roads lead to Rome. If Conor knows how to fight then learning more isn't going to make him less of a fighter.

^ To expand on that, Conor and his SBGi approach to training is mind boggling, he boxes with pure boxers, grapples with pure grapplers and appears to spar MMA with C level fighters at best (minus Gunny)...

Nate nailed it imo, this guy is clowning himself with his team, not saying move on by any means I am saying, where the hell are the elite trainsers and MMA sparring partners? he is going into the fight a lion for a SECOND time surrounded by a posse of sheep

Agreed, BUT that is something you do outside of camp, seek out elite individual guys to tweak your technique in their expertise - not in camp, imo
