Legendary Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu trainer Rigan Machado believes his star student Ashton Kutcher edges out Conor McGregor in a pure grappling match.

These days, it seems like everyone either wants a piece of Conor McGregor, or is being pitted against him.

Most recently, the name of actor and former "Punk’d" host Ashton Kutcher was thrown in on the mix by his own trainer, legendary Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu mentor Rigan Machado.

Machado, who holds an 8th degree red and black belt under Carlos Gracie Jr., spoke to TMZ Sports about his star student, whom he described as "one of the toughest guys in his school, across the board."

"He’s a purple belt, but he has a good background in wrestling. I think he has a chance to be one of the top guys in jiu-jitsu."

I'm never surprised to hear celebrities getting into BJJ and excelling. Why not? Everyone claims that anyone can do it and be decent at it so why not Kelso too? If a 60 year old Bourdain can do it after living the life of a junky turned super-chef and tv personality I don't find it unbelievable that anyone else can do good as well.

Now I want to see Wilmer Valderrama (Fez) get into BJJ and have a match with Ashton. Now that would be surreal gold!

Without sparring?

Rigan Machado Designs Jiu-Jitsu System without Sparring for Celebrities

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is getting more and more popular among the Hollywood A list celebrities. Famous people that train or have trained in BJJ include Ashton Kutcher, Prince Jackson (son of Michael Jackson), Marlon Wayans, Freddie Prinze Jr, Shaquille O’neal, Paul Walker, Scott Caan etc.. The list goes on and on.

The Gracie Academy (Rorion side) have an academy in Beverly Hills. Marcus Vinicius has been teaching celebrities for decades at Beverly Hills Jiu-Jitsu Club and Rigan Machado has a large group of celebrities training under him.

Even if they have bodyguards most of the time, celebrities still want to know how to defend themselves and also get a great workout but what about sparring? Can a celebrity really risk getting their face bruised up or ears mashed up from a hard Jiu-Jitsu roll?

Some have no problem with a tough sparring while some are extra careful and do not spar.

In the April 2015 issue of Jiu Jitsu magazine , Coral belt and BJJ legend Rigan Machado talks about the special program that he has designed by his celibrety students:

“I created a new jiu jitsu system for people who can’t get hurt. It’s technical training. They learn jiu-jitsu and technically train, but it’s all safe. I created a type of jiu-jitsu for the Beverly Hills clientele. Competition, sparring… these guys can’t do that. I can’t even take a 1% chance of them getting hurt. I have 18 celebrities doing this program. Some guys have to sign disclosure agreements; others like Ashton Kutcher and Mickey Rourke come in regularly, while Usher comes in once and a while and Vin Diesel when he’s in town.”

Rigan calls this style for celebrities “flow jiu jitsu”. It took him 9 years to put it together, and it has more than 700 techniques, which can be drilled and trained without risking injury.

Some of Rigan Machado’s celebrity students include:

Charlie Hunnam from TV show sons of anarchy:

Vin Diesel:

Ashton Kutcher and Dan Bilzerian

Robert Duvall

Don't these programs that are taylor made for non contact promote the McDojo problem? How can people (celebrities) be getting bumped up in rankings without real rolling and expect to have the same credibility? Seems more like a marketing tactic for the gym to advertise that Usher trains there and is ranked than it is about teaching the art.

Kutcher grew up in the wrestling hotbed of Iowa, still follows amateur wrestling, and is 6'2. Don't be so quick to assume that he's a pushover or that his purple is bullshit.
