overt ploy to allow the military police to go on campus, yes?
I don't think so. The military don't even wanna mess with it afaik.

What everyone connected with the Bolsonaro government wants is to privatize everything and secure all power to the small Brazilian elite that keeps the country from growing.

denying hundreds of millions of people access to a better future in favor of a few billionaire land owning families isn’t a bad thing?

investors say all things public are evil but then they invest most of their money in State interest rates. Then they either rake money out of the State if it’s good business or they impose “structural arrangement” and rake money later if it was bad business. it doesn’t make any sense.

some big money guy once said “governments are the safest bet because governments can’t run or hide “

Not quite. Arrests were made for corrupt charities and firefighters for starting fires in the amazon then appealing for money from the international community to fight these fires and raise awareness.
Bolsonaro accused di caprio of donating and supporting these "charities".

There is no proof of bolsonaro’s alleged “corrupt charities” - four guys that were arrested are actually widely known as legit activists and were realeased a couple days later.

I don’t know much about it so going with a mix of media reports.

Sure, but theres plenty of proof on hollywood celebs posting false propaganda about amazon fires.
And I have gotten out of car violation fine in brazil with the equivalent of a US$2 bribe, and on being there with an expired visa with an about $3 bribe. These charities got half a million from leo alone.. Thats a lot of "being released with no charges" money.

Why did these fires only get this bad after Bolsonaro came to power?

His fuck boy supporters love to shit on Lula, but this wildfire shit never raged like this when Lula was in power

I don't know why the president should be held responsible for people lighting fires, but yes they did have these fires then, this years is only slightly above average, there just wasn't this global agenda then. Fake news spread by media and celebs.

As of August 16, 2019, an analysis of NASA satellite data indicated that total fire activity across the Amazon basin this year has been close to the average in comparison to the past 15 years.
Fires in Brazil

As well as main stream media hysteria, we had madonna tweet a fire from 30 years ago, cristiano ronaldo tweeted a photo of a wildfire nor even the amazon from 2003, the frenh president tweeted a photo of a fire a journalist who died in 2013 took.
And plenty more. All with heart bleeding, emotion triggering mesages and generally attacking the president.

if the president only cares about fight against imaginary enemies and displays absolute contempt for all social demands including environmental cause then he should be held responsible for people following his lead and lighting fires on the rain forest which perfectly suits his big money agenda of agrobusiness and mineral extraction.

And celebrities posting old photos don't interfere at all with the fact that the fires were occuring they just didn't fact-check their photos because they aren't journalists. Some of them can be annoying? Some are just trying to be cool? Some are just trying to ride the environment wave? Yes. But that doesn't interfere with the fact that huge fires are/were burning the forest..

Better. And yeah I'm not doubting left wing/celebrity hysteria with the photos, but I remember reading that this year's fires were the worst in decades.

And yes Bolsonaro is responsible. He has effectively communicated to farmers that he won't crack down on land-clearing practices, giving them the green light to burn like crazy.
Then why below average fires in Mato Grosso and Pará?

It interferes with the facts when they've been accused of drumming up all this attention and money and it's alledgedly going to some charities who light more fires woresening the problem. And that was what Bolsonaro was talking about but mass media hammer it like he is accusing Di Caprio of directly lighting fires. Which is where this side chat came from.
And they also show amazon fires aren't a rare thing.

2/27 states? No idea but I'm guessing because the land isn't fertile enough to burn. Overall the fires are up big time.

Why are you picking and choosing states in an effort to add weight to your non-point?

according to my friends in Sao Paulo, Weintraub is trying to replace the administration and professors at the universities, as they are a leading source of opposition.

meanwhile, members of the military are using diplomatic trips to smuggle cocaine - the proceeds of which buy the loyalty of the generals.

This is Bolsonaro's 3rd attempt at delegitimizing academics because he perceived them to be the enemies of his regime. The first was calling for a ban on any political discussion in universities and encouraging students to video and report any professor who was critical of him following his election. The second was a budgetary freeze followed by massive funding cuts to education, diluting about 30% of federal funds to universities. Now there's this. Most of his actions come from the fact that there have been massive student movements against him since before he even got into office. Also because he's a lifelong idiot who panders to idiotic ideas and hates education just on its face. With any luck he'll be gone soon, but not soon enough.
