Brendan Schaub Taps Out Of UFC

The fighter part of "Fighter & The Kid" won't be doing any fighting any time soon.

Brendan Schaub announced he'd be taking a sabbatical from the UFC on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast Friday night, citing his burgeoning entertainment career and his unwillingness to sign the UFC's uniform deal with Reebok.

"Do I want one more?" Schaub said. "F*ck yes, man. But it just doesn't make sense. I can't see myself, when it comes down to this, I can't see myself in a f*cking Reebok kit walking out to that Octagon. I can't see myself being like, 'You know what? Cool, man. Yeah, that's what I'm worth. I'm worth 10-grand to you guys. I'm gonna do this.' And I have other opportunities."

Schaub and comedian Bryan Callen host the wildly successful "Fighter & The Kid" podcast. They recently performed a live show in Los Angeles and will be going on tour in the future. "Big Brown" also said he and Callen are filming a television pilot.

There is a lot going on in his life outside of MMA; stepping into the cage right now wouldn't make much sense.

Good for Schaub. Any fighter who is able to make money outside of the UFC should tell Dana to shove up it his ass. The Reebok deal is the worst thing Zuffa has ever done.

He makes a lot of money off that podcast and he doesn't need to fight anymore. Good for him. He found a job that pays significantly more and requires less effort and risk to his health. Rogan told him he needed to retire from fighting and it looks like he's taking his advice.

Which is pretty ironic because he was one of the most disliked guys when he was fighting lol. I think people really felt for him when Rogan dressed him down on the air. It also seems like that sort of humbled Brendan a bit.

i'd imagine anything is better than getting punched in the face for a living. it's really a sucky job but i'm glad people do it for my entertainment.

that was really freakin' gross. best fight i've seen in a long ass time but still.

i get the the athleticism..just seems like a very brutal way to earn a living. i'm not downing it..i love watching it.

when i think about the dudes who are vying for the ufc contract on TUF..it seems like a whole bunch of money but really after you do the math it's not all that much a year. feel like people who commit to the sport and the damages their body will inevitable take should be getting a much bigger paycheck.

if you don't mind me asking...what prevented you from trying to go pro?

i do. i enjoyed my life, when i was fighting. the training was great. getting ready for fights turned into a ritual. we had fun warming up before the fights. keeping it light, we'd tell jokes, and play good music. the fights were all fun, because i knew everyone, and we all loved, or hated each other. getting hit during a fight, doesn't feel that bad. it hurts when you're trying to sleep. lol... after the fights, you go to the best place open that late, and eat. we would reflect on how well the team did for the night, and look at possible fights for the next show. the fighter hotels can be great. the parties after fights are all happy, with exception of a few of the losers.
its a special breed of people that fight, and gym wars can be better than the fights on tv. its a part of my life, that i will never forget.
i had to stop because my knees are both shit, and there's no money to be made after a pro training camp.

He started being self deprecating, rather than egotistical, which made him a lot more bearable.
