Brian Stann never wanted his exit from the world of MMA to be a big deal. That’s why he announced news of his departure from the UFC broadcast booth on the Monday before Mayweather vs. McGregor, hoping his decision would quickly fade into the news cycle, because as he put it, he knew he’d be leaving the sport in good hands with other fighters-turned-commentators like Dominick Cruz, Daniel Cormier, and Dan Hardy on the rise.

But Stann’s exit was always going to be a major blow. His dedication and professionalism helped to elevate the craft of color commentary in mixed martial arts, and over the course of his several years with the UFC, he became one of the most respected figures within the industry, always studious with his research and always respectful of the athletes who made the sport possible.

Stann will now carry that same level of commitment into his new career, his road beginning anew next Monday when he begins his new role as a Chief Operating Officer of a company he only described as a “large real estate firm.” The 36-year-old former Marine has also returned to school, striving toward his executive Masters of Business Administration (MBA) at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

As likeable as he is, he was still terrible behind the mic.
Perhaps he was commentating too much from cageside view over his cageside screen.
But the truth is, he's an all-American marine, unblemished who fit's the bill in stature, carried passion to the job, but as commentating went he left much to be desired to say the least.

I enjoyed him and Anik together. Was more down to earth and informative. Also always nice getting a perspective of the game from a player's mind

I liked his commentating just fine, he was professional, composed and offered good insight to me the viewer- class act through and through.

I found him unremarkable as a commentator and his 'greatest living american' crap was the most arrogant, cringe-worthy catchphrase ever.

I like him, but it did seem like sometimes he would say stuff that didn't happen - punches, that sort of thing. Maybe it's just that I'm not as expert at these things as he is though. He said it smoothly, though, and that's the main thing for tv. Sometimes it doesn't matter what the actual words are, I think, to a large portion of the audience.

Surely. You can tell by the more schooled sentiment even here & elsewhere it doesn't seem to matter. To an anal-yst it was painful, and I can't imagine WME not having a hand in *his* decision, one I saw coming for awhile.
I suppose anything's possible.

Terrible?

Wasn't my favorite but terrible is a bit hyperbolic.

I literally can't count how many errors he made in a single broadcast, time and time and time again. His fervor, passion and social status kept him around as long as he was. I'm referring to his pbp.
Yeah, it was atrocious.
Search any live fight thread on the site where he was active, you will find multiple "wtf" references to his pbp.

Lol.
What can I say, my BS alarm woke up the neighbors when I saw the "why he left" in the title.
Yeah, he "left" like Scaramucci "left".
Everyone including myself wishes him the best, but that man didn't "leave" so much as he was given an honorable discharge with narrative rights.

Smoke and mirrors. He's leaving to fight on an elite spec ops force headed by Tim Kennedy to eliminate, you know, those people. The ones that wear robes, not the ones that wear baggy jeans.
