Are you ashamed of these fucks in this thread and the quality of their questions (except for me)?
No, not really. You never know peoples backgrounds & "you don't know what you don't know". Because of this, I think many don't have enough background to even ask a question. It would be similar to myself attempting to speak with a specialist in an unrelated field from mine that I had no hobby type experience in. I wouldn't even know where to begin asking an intelligent question. I'd sit back & wait for other informed people to get the conversation going to a point where I may pick up enough to Forrest Gump my way through.

Can you help me build a power plant in my garage so I can stick it to the man?

Lol. Many states won't let you disconnect from the grid completely. It's considered a "reliability" resource. Total BS but it is what it is.

You can find a large Onan (or other decent brand) generator that has been converted to run on natural gas & run it. Don't think you'll save anything, quite the opposite at this point, but you would be "off grid" & able to run your entire home.

For a homeowner in most states. Buy a home with a new(er) owned PV installation & purchase an extended warranty from the manufacturer directly. I did this & am not even a fan of PV. The previous owner ate the cost of the system as it didn't warrant an increase in the purchase price. I purchased a 20yr extended warranty directly from SMA & have already had the inverter replaced. 20yr extension was around $700 if I recall correctly. Team the PV system with a Nat. Gas generator that has a good relay package & you're golden for FAR under the cost of a battery backup system. Well that's my $.02 anyway.

rmenergy @rmenergy you said you are in the Rocky Mountain area? I consulted on two transmission lines there, not on the power conversion and delivery of course
More the overall project logistics. I’m hesitant to tell you their names because they’re a shit show and were already wildly over budget when I came in. I blame SNC-Lavelin and Siemens.

No. I just said WECC & that it fall from the Rockies to the west.

I'm actually in the greater Sacramento area.

Okay good, you should have no idea what monumental clusterfucks I am referencing.

Anyways thanks for making this thread.

I don’t have any good questions.

You're welcome & no problem. Figured it would be a decent way to "introduce" myself as it's not a common profession that impacts everyone.

So many of those projects run over budget & a few companies really are shit shows.
This was an unholy amalgamation between government, piggybacking private industry and an engineering firm known world wide for corruption. And then some Germans.

Sounds about right.
