We should be seeing much more of this. Fuck the govt for just giving students and the unemployed cash during covid while we are bringing in foreign workers. Instead pay these kids to relocate short term to where the work is or to work on some sort of govt project.
How very Conservative of you.

Not sure exactly where to put this but it was an interesting read. Wondering if any Canadians have thoughts on it.

In Canada we often fail to consider the negative consequences of throwing money around -pardon, subsidies or financial incentives.

In this case, it's pretty obvious that many people, especially students, won't see the benefits of working when they simply can... Just receive cash!
It's psychology.
It's also cheap politics from JT and the liberals. Throw money at them and they'll vote for you next election. Hopefully. Who cares about the consequences on the budget and society as long as you get elected.
Liberal recipe for the last 50 years.
And it works. Pathetically..

It’s bullshit.

The requirements are bullshit. The oversight is bullshit.

Fuck JT and anyone else trying to make this political. And only someone with an agenda would question anyones distain for this program. It’s not about liberalism vs conservatism. Being that fiscally irresponsible with tax payer money is wrong all around.

The govt best do a lot of follow up on all these payments considering all you have to do is apply to get it. Minimal proof or follow up is required.

All the addicts around here sure enjoyed the free money and now free hotel rooms.. and how is the govt going to hold them accountable? Non of them pay taxes, it will be impossible to claw that money back.

Ur boi:

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh announced Wednesday morning that his party would not support the bill unless that amount for student parents and people with disabilities was increased to $2,000, so that it was equal to the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, which is aimed at all individuals who cannot work due to COVID-19. The government initially agreed to the new student benefit in response to concerns that some students were not eligible for CERB.

Shouldn't the priority be making sure people who need assistance are getting it rather than holding them up because some people are crooks? It's not like it's going to be hard to figure out who took money they weren't entitled to.

Although I agree, this is clear vote buying by the Liberals and the NDP. You need to consider that we shouldn't be a society where the government forces you out of work and then rounds you up and sends you away from your friends and family to work somewhere else. It's next door neighbours to what the government did to the Indians.

It’s still bullshit.

The requirements and accountability needs to be beefed up.

Students should at minimum have to prove they are paying rent/mortgage AND for their own tuition.

The idea of giving relief funds to a kid living at home with their parents paying their tuition is a joke.

The fact all you need to prove is your registered for school in September is a joke. Register, collect $8 grand then unregister when tuition is due in Sept.

Easy for you to say, like me, you're essential and still working. I have no use for this government and their response has been horrendous, but people questioning whether or not the priority should have been getting money to people as quickly as possible are out to lunch.
