UFC bantamweight contender Bryan Caraway really, really wants to fight for the championship next, but if he is offered another top contender, he will accept under one condition: a win moves him up the ladder.

Bryan Caraway cemented his position in the top five of the official UFC bantamweight rankings this past weekend when he upset the highly-touted Aljamain Sterling, delivering him his first professional loss. It was a back-and-forth fight on the mat, but Caraway pulled away in the later rounds and extended his winning streak with a split decision victory.

Sterling was very determined to fight Caraway and once the fight was booked, "Funk Master" was just as determined to shut the underdog down at UFC Fight Night 88 on May 29.

According to Caraway, Sterling's hype and trash talk…

Caraway still 'willing' to take non-title fight, but wants to 'keep moving up the ladder'

Fucking lol. He's come a long way since everyone thought he's just miesha's bf who tranes ufc, to beating stirling and changing popular opinion..but he's nowhere near a title shot yet..he's got a fight each year from 2014 and he's lost to Assuncao in the '14 one.

P.S. What does teamquestnorth @NavyTwink think about the ribcage surname tattoo?

Gatekeeper at best. His only way to get a title shot would be as a last minute replacement.

He shouldn't accept anything less than top 3. You may not like it as fight fans but the Woodley approach is the way to go. Never fight anyone ranked less than you unless you have no chance of fighting for the title.

Actually it would help them get paid more. Almeida gained absolutely nothing from fighting Garbrandt except a restart. Easier to take losing to a guy ranked above you instead of one that isn't ranked at all.

Idk cerrone doesn't seem to have a problem getting paid.
Good point and tony Ferguson is one who doesn't "wait"........shit, he was going to go back to Michael Johnson just to fight and that was one of the most extreme lose lose fights I can think of.......

I don't mind Caraway. Not the most exciting style, but I think the amount of shit he gets is unwarranted.

He seems like a decent dude, is a top 5 fighter and gets to see the front side of this when ever he wants..

quit yer hatin'......I doubt there are many on this board who are winning at life more than Bryan is...except for NavyTwink, of course.

Plus he won me money last week.

i could see the UFC being intrigued with him getting to the title so they can have a couple holding the bantamweight titles.

the real question is whether anyone in the division, including the champion, is willing to fight someone with a left hand so ferocious it knocks his opponent clear out of the photo

See people bitch about fighter pay and blah blah blah, but then you bitch because they wont fight lesser ranked opponents. Seems kind of selfish to me.

I am not a big fan of Tyron or the way he fights but why should he fight someone like Ellenberger and possibly lose when he can hold out and keep his ranking. If it wasnt for all the immediate rematches and champs trying to fight out of their weightclass then maybe the top fighters would fight each other. Then the loser can go back and fight the up and comers like it should be.

They easy way for Tyrone to increase his fighter pay is two fold. Fight more often or figure out a way to get people interested in seeing him fight. It's why if tito came back tomorrow he'd make a hell of a lot more then woodley. It has nothing to do with ranking and everything to do with eyeballs.

But per your original post. I'm not one to bitch about fighter pay.

Why would woodley take 2 lesser fights to make the same money he will make holding out for one title fight.

To become a fighter people want to watch. To get multiple big pay days as opposed to one big one at best a few as he won't hold that title long if he somehow manages to grab it. He could of gotten three pay days in the time he's been sitting out. Most likely more than he will make in his title fight.

Would it have been enough to sustain the damage he would take? Also what if he loses? He is such a boring fighter most of the time he isnt getting another push?
