With Donald Cerrone’s proposed bout against Conor McGregor is unlikely to happen — weirdly due to card placement — the UFC is said to be currently looking for a different match up for Cowboy. If an exchange from backstage at UFC 235 is any indication, it looks like Cerrone is really down to compete at any weight.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto shared a conversation between Cowboy and former opponent Nate Diaz.

Cowboy: Nate, when you fighting again?

Diaz: It’s not me. UFC doing it.

Cowboy: Well, just so you know, I’ll fight you.

Diaz: S---. We’ll do it at 185. I’m done cutting weight.

    Cowboy: Okay.
Cerrone and Diaz originally fought back in 2011 at lightweight. Diaz beat Cerrone by decision at UFC 141, setting a record at the…

"Diaz: S---. We’ll do it at 185. I’m done cutting weight."

    Not really interested then

"I'm done cuttin weight" is a fighters way of saying I'm done giving 100%
and don't really give a fuck except to collect checks.

    I'm cool on that

    Thanks for the memories Nate!

    Enjoyed all your fights!

    How?

Cutting weight doesn’t really benefit anyone. He’ll be just as lean as normal... except he won’t dehydrate himself before weigh ins.

Not saying it benefits to cut weight. Just saying typically when fighters start expressing
that attitude they are on their way out and done giving 100% to the sport

    True Dat.

just wish that athletic commissions would ban the practice outright.

There's no benefit to the athlete or the betting public in knowing who can make themselves smallest 24 hrs before the fight and still perform elite-enough to win.

Iirc he got a new contract after the first conor fight that was like 500k/500k. Hes arguably a bigger draw than other fighters with similar contract like hunt formerly had or even overeem.

Maybe they dont want to pay him that much for a fight with cowboy which would be a big fight for hardcores but possibly wouldnt sell. Would be a great headliner for a fox show or a ppv co main

Its a major factor in cases where you hear fighters or a coach say "his records not that good but hes a beast in the gym/ gym killer"

Basically its cause they are nearly dead the day before. Other times it could be the lights pressure stage fear or lack of prior competition. But imo if a dude is really good in practice and not so great competition day 70% of the time its cause of a cut

It makes no sense to do that before one of the most dangerous days of the year and maybe your life...makes zero sense

Ive had horrible a cut for a bjj competition and the worst part is you can weigh in on friday sat or sunday. So i cut 12 pounds on a sunday and weighed and competed on same day. Only cut weight cause i was told alot of guys were cutting alot of weight.

Long story short i cut from 195 to 183 and ended up competing against wrestlers who cut from 210-215lbs and they did it 24 hours prior and rehydrated. I was throwing up after my first match and ended up getting 4th. Then i found out i could have weighed in the day before and realized my mistake

But fuck weight cutting altogether and fuck all the wrestlers cutting weight for bjj tournys and making it a more common practice. Not to mention wrestlers habitually sandbag. End rant
