We’ve seen cages and rings in every shape and size, but Bellator will have a special apparatus at Saturday’s Bellator 183 event.

Officials today announced the U.S. debut of the “Bellator Flying Cage” (yes, they trademarked the name). It will allow the event to transition from MMA to kickboxing bouts during the Spike-televised hybrid card (Bellator 183 and Bellator Kickboxing 7).

Check out the video above.

Here’s how Bellator officials describe it:

A must-see spectacle, the steel structure is suspended from above and lowered to the platform beneath allowing the Bellator Kickboxing ring to completely transform into the Bellator MMA cage in less than 15 minutes. Having been featured at previous events in Florence, Italy, Torino, Italy and Budapest, Hungary, the Flying Cage has never before been utilized in the United States. Bellator is proud to bring this unique experience to its Bay Area home at SAP Center in San Jose, Calif. on September 23.

I watched the re-run after the live one and they didn't show it. When I just posted that video was the first time I've seen it. :(
Just clicked and watched- that wasn't Owen. That footage is from a WCW event, Owen's tragedy happened at a WWF event, when he was playing the Blue Blazer character.

I honestly can't remember what was actually shown- my memory was a shot of the ring, and him landing by a turnbuckle, near the apron then the cameras cutting away for awhile. I definitely remember Jim Ross having to look into the camera and announce the news, then having to finish the show.

That's right, he was coming back as his original character Blue Blazer. The guy in video looks like Sting.

Bellator should get rid of a cage altogether.

- It's awful for the fans who are at the venue, as they can't see shit
- When the fighters pin their opponents to the cage it is a boring 1-3 minutes ordeal.
- The general aesthetics of the cage are awful, as it looks as something less sport and more underground hillbilly contest.

They should go with a ring. Then they could mix cards with mma/kickboxing and boxing too if they'd like.

If Conor asked for it I'm pretty sure Dana would carry him to the cage in a baby bjorn.

But don't act like Coker isn't the one with the flair for the theatrics when it comes to showmanship. That's both a good thing and a negative. Dana and co lack creativity of any kind it seems. Coker just comes awfully close to blurring the lines between MMA and WWE when it comes to the show and that's not for me. Find me a sweet spot in between and I'd be giddy as I anxiously await to see people bludgeon each other.

It's never been WWE that Coker's tried to emulate, it's always been PrideFC (which itself takes cues from professional wrestling, but Japanese professional wrestling, which is different from what WWE does).

Meanwhile, Dana has openly stated his admiration for Vince McMahon and the way he runs his company. Chael Sinner and Conor McGregor are both doing pro wrestling style promos and people love it.

That's pretty badass. Love that Bellator is willing to try almost anything to give fans something new.

Wow. Yeah. All they need is the cage to accidentally start rocking back and forth somehow and fall partway into the audience.

Regarding the Owen Hart video... I don't know what to say other than that's sad, and I hope he didn't realize until the very last moment that things had gone wrong. He didn't seem panicked as he went down.

I guess another thing... I don't understand why the guy in the NWO shirt was flexing at the guy with the stretcher.

That actually is not footage of Owen Hart falling. Apparently that was "Sting", and he lived. The comments on YouTube point this out.

Dammit, I missed this conversation somehow. I thought I was smart. Detective NHBStriker.
