there comes a point when, as a fan, you feel like you might have a helpful objective viewpoint, when the sport bangs against the edges of what it should be

Can't help but think UFC removing his former paid position was the domino that lead Chuck to unretiring.

Big Iceman fan, but also a realist. We're not going to see any return to glory. Impossible. He will be a shell of his former self at best, we'd only watch as a spectacle nothing else. He's not going to do anything for his weight class other than sacrifice his own health while an up and comer lights him up.

Part of the game, I don't like it, but I get it.

Agree. Let these older guys do what they enjoy, as long as they’re not being matched up with young guns.
At the end of the day, Chuck is a grown man. Let the fighter make the choice. He knows the risks and if the market doesn't want it, the ratings will show it.

Spoiler: Ratings will be through the roof.

Chuck was beating the shit out of Rich Franklin in his last fight, even broke Franklin's arm, it wasn't even close until Rich caught Liddell charging in. Unlike a lot of fighters who fight way past their primes, Liddell still had the speed and power offensively, but he literally couldn't take a shot anymore. If someone who's looked as shot as BJ's looked in his last 4 or 5 fights still has trouble retiring (officially) from the sport, I can't imagine what it must've been like to be Chuck all these years, sitting on the sidelines.

Do you honestly think that 'knowing about' brain injury will somehow protect him?
It's up to him to use available information to protect himself because he's a grown up. If he says he wants to bang. Then he should be allowed to bang, bro.

Liddell is my second favorite fighter of all time, but I don’t want to see him return. He can want to fight all he wants, but at the end of the day it’s the doctor that will allow it. Which I hope the doctors don’t. I know Liddell wants it. He has always been willing to make sacrifices to fight. He didn’t HAVE to fight Babalu, but he wanted to fight (at the risk of losing a title shot). He probably should have waited and gotten the title shot, but he didn’t want to wait. But, good thing for him, he won.

Long story short; he wants to fight and is willing to risk a lot. Before, he risked a title shot, now he’s risking his health.

Maybe he's risking his health, maybe he isn't. Either way, he's aware of the risks he's taking.

Chuck does have good people around him that care deeply for him. I don’t think this was an easy decision for anyone but Chuck clearly never wanted to retire. He was basically forced into it and has been itching to fight ever sense. I’m not sure if it’s relevant or not but I was also told today he seperated from his previous manager and his wife is now managing his career.

How does bellaton conduct drug testing?
Btw, this isn’t directed at chuck, just curious in general

CutmanMatt @CutmanMatt
Bellator uses the guidelines of whatever commission is overseeing the event.

When we're in Cali or under Mohegan for instance, everyone gets tested. Mohegan caught Thompson for Juice at our Newcastle, England show last December for example.

Other commissions will do just the TV card, and some still just pick randomly.

I personally am in favor of just doing the whole card.

Holy shit am I the only one who smiled at first glance? It's the fucking Iceman you big meanies. He's a grown ass man and if wants to get back in I'll happily tune it and root him on. Ya he'll probably be slow, tired and slightly drunk looking but show some respect and support for a legend.

Great posting OP.

My man, this is horrible news. Chuck had slurring speech already 12 years ago, it's gotten worse too, he is old school so he probably been ko'd in training way back, then you add in all his ko's, this is bad. Where are the people around him looking out for him, he's already having issues and with some more ko's he might literally end up having horrible issues, he's got a family and I don't want to see him in a few years looking at his daugher and not knowing her name.

this is really bad

Bellator: Retirement home.

How does Bellator expect to be taken seriously. I mean, seriously.

No really.
