Another reason for making this a title fight is it allows them to keep it as the main event and a five round fight. It would be hard to justify making a Mendes and McGregor non-title fight as the main event over Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald.

this is bullshit.there is no way a interim title at a lower wieght class should ever take main event status over rory vs robbie

I agree on the interim title, this is all just bullshit, Aldo fought last under a year ago, and is injured. I don't care whether he pulled out of several champ fights in the past, he is still the champ and has ended up fighting in those fights. He knows if he can fight or not. Dana and co have wanted Conor to have a belt so bad so now they have pulled the controversial interim aka place holder title out which in fact now should be Mendes vs Edger. The UFC is willing to go broke so it can have conor as some form of champ. They think just because guys spit and talk tough in the WWE that will transfer over to the sinking UFC, after the fiasco of yesterday i don't think even a interim title will change what they have become. The UFC brass know how its done, they are in the casino business and know you ride it til the last dollar then sell. I hope Mendes destroys conor just to rain on the #1 goal that's always been in place. Professionalism died along time ago now its just comedic gold on a daily basis.

Thanks for sharing The Fight Wolff @The Fight Wolff. Mike Kovacs seems like a guy that is doing good things at Last Word On Sports, and is always willing to give people an opportunity to write about what they're passionate about. Best of luck!
