So if Conor doesn't fight in 2017... It will have been a minimum 14 months since the LW belt has been active.

Quoting my main man Chuck D "Don't Believe the Hype".. THAT MOTHERFUCKER wasn't going to fight December 30th, the UFC knew he wasn't, I'm waiting for Dana to come out and say "oooooh noooooo, daaaaamn, our hands are tied here, daaaaamn, oh this sucks... bummer guys, bummer.... And I'll tell you what, to make up for it, Nate vs Conor 3 in May"
Lets pretend for conversations sake that he was scheduled to fight, do they not realize that they created a "monster", they have no control over him, the only bit of control they have is their contract with him and i believe they need to offer him a fight in a certain amount of time in that contract.
Let just say they shelf him for a year or so, he's got that FUCK YOU money and can sing it out for a few years.
They won't be stripping him of his title unless the commision demands it, otherwise they are killing there cashcow.

We finally have a real independent contracter in the UFC, who actually can do what ever he sees fit to business wise.

If he plays it right, he's got that type of money pretty much for life. That guy does not have to fight anymore.
good for him. But honestly as a fan, fuck him if that's the way he wants to go. Conor sitting out this long even if he comes back, will be very lack-luster. People supported Conor when he was a savage, fighting multiple times a year, taking replacement fights on short notice, and he was hungry but now he's cocky and doesn't even fight, just full of drama. Everyone knows he's got cardio issue but all he's been really doing during his inactivity is get big-headed.

The way I see it, he'll get humbled in the cage his next fight. His potential opponents are Tony, Nate, Gsp, maybe Khabib. After he lose, he'll try to say something like "i'll be back, I got cocky" but he probably won't, all that money and fame most likely burnt all the fire out.

Does anyone think that McGregor will really fight in the UFC again unless it's some spectacle match-up?

I do. There's still money to be made.
I wonder if he was trying to sabotage himself and get a ban from the UFC.

He's made enough money to never need to worry about some rinky-dink 155 or 145 title fight in the UFC, the only fights he'd be interested in are big money fights such as Diaz III or GSP, but he will probably lose to GSP so does he really want that fight either?

I think he now sees ways to make more money and fame by not defending his titles against fighters with no ratings appeal.

If anything, a boxing match with Paulie Malignaggi would generate more money for him, at far less physical risk, than a defense of the 155lb UFC belt. And The current WBO world champ has offered McGregor a title fight in Australia. I will be surprised if McGregor remains in the UFC for much longer unless they cater to his desire to do spectacle fights instead of championship fights.

He can't make it as a boxer though. The whole May-Mac thing was supposed to be MMA's best v Boxings best. As boxer only there are no winnable fights for Conor against top ranked opponents, his name value would quickly deteriorate. He might have one boxing match he could make money from unless he wins, its all downhill from there.

I agree with you, but I see him as a guy who wants to do Kimmel and Colbert, and just play the consummate "fighter" without really having to keep doing the hard yards that got him there. Some big name PPV fights will be better for his media interests, and for his wallet. Why fight Joe Schmo for a lightweight UFC title for chicken feed, when you can fight the current WBO champ for tens of millions? I think that McGregor has used the UFC as his stepping stone to bigger and better things.

Well I think he's must earning 10+ million a fight in the UFC now. But you're right he'll make better money with his own promotion company outside the UFC.

Personally, the fight I want to see most is against Pauli, Conor won't be able out shit talk him, so the build up will immense.

Yeah, you and everyone else. That's my point, Conor can see a way to still be the center of attention, and making the big bucks, without having to go through the weight cutting and extensive training he would need to do for a UFC championship fight. He just has to focus on boxing and as long as he puts on a good show, then everyone is happy. I think we will continue to see him in MMA as well, but I will be surprised if he does defend his current belts.

Pauli most likely beats him though, who comes after that? Oscar De La Hoya was a big name and the fight might sell. The thing is that unless he wins those fights he's nothing more than a side show, with no dance partner. Nobodies going to pay money to see Conor v some 7-116 Journeyman.

Besides I can't see the UFC releasing him under any circumstances. They are currently lobbying against the Ali act to stop this stuff from happening. If he was going to get in trouble it would have happened by now, the UFC came down like a ton of bricks immediately after the likes of High, Daley, Nelson and Bisping screwed up, but nothings been said or done about McGregor despite his actions being much worse.

If it what you say is true, and he his trying to UFC to sack him... then there should be fun days ahead! :pill::performingarts::cheers::leftright:
