"And look here: a display of a lightbulb in some fake grass- how would you interpret that?"
Me:
What? I don't! All I see is the end result of some "artist" who put in zero effort into that and wants to get recognition and presumably, paid for it. Screw you and your racket.

They put a few fucking lines going here and there, maybe a few blocks of wood or coat hangers or some shit. Sometimes you can see what they're getting at or there's some pattern or theme in it, or it could be really chaotic; whatever, you know what to imagine.
But the thing is, I'm looking at some of these things and yeah some of it takes time and energy but it looks like a lot of the time, it's the absolute bare minimum -those assholes are basically asking us to do all the work for them.

I've run a few events that feature contemporary art exhibits.... Some are cool, but the majority (and the artists who created them) are just... AWFUL!!!

"Tell me, how does this piece make you feel?"... It makes me feel like your parents don't tell their friends what their kid does for work, and that you had to get someone to pick up your shift at Michael's Craft Shop so you can be here today.

You read that correctly. That's their angle: they put in the bare minimum and then people give them the benefit of the doubt and think up some interpretation of the "work" in question. The creators and galleries are the ones laughing.
Don't get me wrong, some of it is clearly from the hands of a talented and hard-working artist, but from what I've seen, a lot of it is a joke.

I'm really liking the murals popping up on buildings art wise everywhere at the moment though, that's really cool.

So my friend from high school does things like this...

I don't really get it but it's cool looking and she's made a solid career for herself.

I know that there's also a lot of intricate work in this but still... I'm not blown away.


Of course, I also find it to be far more awesome than a ton of the things I've seen in museums where it's basically a picture frame on the wall with nothing inside of it. Cheeky fuckers.
