Could Woodley be a contender for GSP's mantle at WW?

I'm not surprised he beat Maia. There just was no way he was taking him down and he wasn't beating him on the feet clearly, so it was pretty obvious what was happening early in the fight.

Bottom line, not very entertaining, just stating my opinion, but I bet anyone who enjoys a decent scrap, or atleast a technical striking clinic with a bit more output than 60 shots, wouldn't have enjoyed watching that either. I just don't know why Woodley wasn't more aggressive against Maia, he could have torn him apart if he was a more aggressive fighter, but he's so defensive, even against guys that he can physically overtake with ease.

This is, bottom line why I'm not a Woodley fan, but...

The dude, as or more boring than GSP IMHO, made some pretty good points at the press conference. The guys a class act and he's not afraid to speak the truth.

Got a question though... does anyone think there's a way he can overtake or atleast rival GSP's mantle as the best WW?

He just took out the two best guys in the division, beating one of them twice, now I can't think who else there is for him to fight besides GSP? I mean, Robbie won and against Cerrone, a smaller WW, but a guy who was ranked in the division. So is he title contention now too? I don't really think that win is enough to earn him another shot, especially considering it's the only win separating his loss too Tyron Woodley from literally a 1 and a day ago from the rest of his future record.

He's a legit champ, Bisping isn't, GSP is all in this for what will give him the best payday.

Sucks, but that's just the way it is.

Here's another question, do you think his title reign will be MORE boring than GSP's? Hahahaha. Best and most boring, two different titles up for grabs.

No because he didn't dominate. He shut down Maia's one dimension. GSP dominated the deepest division for his run.

In his prime, GSP was more dominant and a bigger pay per view draw. Woodley and Maia were both defeated by a younger, better fighter who will soon become Bellator's welterweight champion, throwing the entire theory that UFC champs, per division, are the best in the world.

He should fight Nate marquhardt again......he got lit up in that fight.

They can make it happen and I'd actually be interested in seeing that fight. Tyrone will be begging for a wrestling match

In his prime GSP would've taken Maia down had ground him to meat. Even now I think GSP wouldn't have shied away from taking him down. Tyron ran for 5 rounds from a dude 10 years older than him because he was scared to be taken down. GSP may have played it safe but he beat people up while doing it.

So short answer. No.
