MMA fans and commentators have internalized retarded judging, including myself to an extent. We've become so accustomed to scoring ineffective grappling control so highly that we've forgotten that's not how the scoring system actually works. 'Impact' is supposed to be king and 'dominance' explicitly says "Merely holding a dominant position(s) shall not be a primary factor in assessing dominance. What the fighter does with those positions is what must be assessed." We assume judges will score a fight incorrectly, which leads us to do the same.
I still think Colby won even with that said - he just did enough in 3 of 5 rounds. Some spastics had it all 5 rounds for Colby. The main takeaway from the rewatch, as usual, is that Rogan needs to learn the fucking judging criteria. Another disgraceful, biased, amateur commentary performance that would have left most people thinking Covington was dominating.
