Curtis Blaydes has accepted that he won’t be the next UFC heavyweight title challenger. What’s left to be decided, though, is what that means when it comes to his more immediate future.

Meaning: Now that it’s all but official that dual champ Daniel Cormier will meet Brock Lesnarin his first UFC heavyweight title defense, does Blaydes just sit it out and wait? Or does he take another fight and risk his current contender spot?

At this point, the 27-year-old Blaydes (10-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) isn’t sure what he’ll do. But on the pros-and-cons list of taking a fight, octagon history is filed under con.

He could & should be next in line if he wins his next fight
There is no conspiracy

If he is worried about losing his next fight he most likely wouldn't beat DC anyway (I doubt he would)

He's a bad match up for DC.. Monster high level wrestler that he can't knock out.. then again they both are tough matchups for one another

Cormier fights Brock and then rides off into the sunset. He'll leave the division a bit of a mess. Blaydes needs another win, Volkov is pretty much right there. And Stipe needs another win too; we have to get out of this habit of champs who get KOed getting instant title shots. Maybe a four man tournament with Stipe, JDS, Blaydes, and Volkov.

The days of earning your title shot in the ring are fading or gone...you need a following or demographic to move up the ranks fast

I don't think there's any conspiracy against him.

Although yes, I'm sure the UFC would love to see Lesnar become champ again, because it means more $$$

But he has to realise this is a money grab and nothing personal. Volkov has a great case for the next title shot as well, given he was an alternate for DC/Stipe.

I understand these guys are fighters and want to be "the best" but it seems everyone just wants to become the champ when it's not realistic. Fans don't need to hear and read about how these guys are victims. Who set that precedent?

I wish the UFC would either eliminate the belts altogether or contract it so the champ only fights 2 per year. The champ fails to do that and then all the contenders can enter a tournament to decide the new champ. They don't want to do that? Well then go kick rocks.
As an outsider, it makes sense to me that they take measures to ensure their fighters have "will fight anyone" attitudes. Maybe if they paid them differently?

I disagree with the bold
The reasons these fighter complain on social media is because fans eat it up.

It is the same reason fighters bitch about UFC, but refuse to sign a signature card for Project Spearhead.
They get the fans to rally behind them without actually doing anything about it.

I get that you & I see through the complaining, but most do not & most back anytime anybody rages against the machine

You make a good set of points/observations. I guess I'm surprised then that people really want to "take sides" in even this.
How do fans "rally around" fighters? What's the effect?

Thanks man
Why do non fighters run to Twitter for affirmation?
Its human nature it seems.

Plus when it comes to anything the "underdog" always gets rooted for.
In these cases it is against UFC.
Dana is the stereotypical bad guy in a lot of eyes.
He brings it on himself by doing dickish things.
So fighters try to get disgruntled fans on their side.

But we follow it enough to know that outside of a few they are not that unhappy or they would take minimal steps to change things.

I was an employee & an employer
I remember one of the first times I was in charge, a very good friend who was older & a mentor in business said to me "you are now the bad guy" because I was the boss.
I was who underlings can rally against.

So be a dick like DW & it is 10 fold lol

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I 100% believe title shots should be given to those who earn them, but I'm less inclined to order a PPV headlined by lay-n-pray.

The reality is, it is a mix of both & always was in combat sports

Ali fought guys ranked #8 all the time

if a fighter is in contention for a title shot, he will get one if he wins still
If he loses, he wasn't really the #1 guy anyway

He is one of 3-4 possible contenders. He is not even clear cut #1.

Brock/DC is one fight. It is not like if he wins he will never get a shot.
nobody ever said he was next ... he felt he was.

That's the same old, lame excuse everyone uses for behaving badly in business:

"We do BAD THING X because THAT'S WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT."

Instead of succeeding by doing things the right way, it's just an excuse for doing things the wrong way. I have dealt with it and it's proponents my whole career. It's bullcrap because the people take what is given to them. There are plenty of people who went to see SOLO and The Last Jedi. That doesn't mean those movies are good. And playing the crybaby on social media gets lapped up by a good deal of sheeple, but that doesn't mean grown men should be doing it............

You can succeed by doing things the right way just as well as everyone who cuts corners, fuck people over or present lazy, poor products.

Just my two cents.

I was explaining the reasons why fighters complain on social media
You are going in different directions (most I agree with).

If people did not support fighters complaining publicly, they would not do it
That is my point

I also think comparing a fighter voicing to doing "bad thing X" is a bit hyperbole, but no biggie

Dana needs to step back from the promoter role and hire a real promoter that can build up guys like blades and volkov. No one outside of the hardcore base knows who anyone out of the top 2 or 3 guys in any division is.they have 500 guys who are just not being promoted at all.dana isnt really doing much anymore anyway compared to the zuffa days.he should become a figurehead and get some people in there to help build some interest in some of these other fighters

Yeah, I’m a sport where you can go from top of the world to bottom of the heap in 1-2 fights, it makes no business sense to have all your eggs in one basket.

If you can’t beat everyone then you aren’t really champ are ya?

I know there is the issue of difference in pay between title and non title fight but you don’t sit imo.......

This...

Everyday a fighter says one more thing that that makes me say "I can't believe
fighters are still this dense in this day and age"

Blaydes has almost zero following behind us hardcores

The average casual isn't even aware he exists.

He doesn't have the most entertaining personality

No Blaydes you aren't getting a title shot

Now go take shit talking and trolling lessons from Colby Covington so you can
give WME the shit show farce of a sport it wants

The conspiracy is he has a boring personality and no following.

The other problem is he thinks the UFC is an actual sporting event where
its all about the best competing against each other.
