Dada 5000's family have released a statement on Facebook stating that the heavyweight has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
Although the Bellator 149 co-main event between Dada 5000 and Kimbo Slice provided some comic relief for MMA fans, the bout wasn't without its heart-stopping moments. Literally.
Dada, real name Dhafir Harris, collapsed due to exhaustion in the third round and was immediately stretchered backstage. The street fighting sensation went into cardiac arrest after suffering from renal failure and severe dehydration. It's suspected that the 40-pound weight cut played a major role in Harris' health scare. Kimbo Slice also broke Dada's orbital bone during the fight.
After spending nearly two weeks in hospital, a member of the Harris family released a statement on Facebook on Wednesday stating that the 38-year-old is back at home and recovering well in Florida.
"Dada 5000 has been released from the Hospital and is now back home in South Florida," the message stated. "He wants all his supporters to know he appreciates them and is nothing without them. He will soon be available to tell his story."
Bellator 149 marked Dada's third professional MMA bout and the first loss of his career. It's unknown if the heavyweight will make a return to the cage after suffering such a brutal loss.
