Abu Dhabi -- breaking news from the UAEJJF Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship is that Mackenzie Dern is out of the tournament.

The American-Brazilian superstar's name has been removed from the brackets. She was expected to compete in the -55kg division.

Team USA member Dern would have fought Belgian brown belt Amal Amjahid in the opening round, but as you can see by looking at the bracket her name has been crossed out.

Here is my take on the whole thing:

Her goal right now is to build her MMA record, so she is coming in overweight to have a competitive advantage. She doesn't care about the money lost because she is already making a ton of money from the UFC (who already have her under contract) and sponsors.

She also gets to keep her curves, which is the main reason for her popularity. If you think it's her fighting skills, you are delusional.

The last thing on her mind is the opinion of a bunch of neckbeards on MMA forums or BJJ nerds upset about her weight cut.

That excuse sounds an awful lot like how in her last fight she didn't miss weight because her opponent agreed to a catch weight (since there was no way Dern was making weight) before the official weigh in.

She must already be a blue belt in the Brazilian art of excuse or she's trying to live up to her dads nickname, Mackenzie 'Megaton' Dern.

So she was going to miss weight but decided not to bother, personally. Some fame, some recognition, and suddenly people forget what got them there in the first place. Get famous through bjj, pffft, don't need those competitona anymore.
