He also said anybody that doesn't consider the ESPN deal a great deal should stop covering the sport (media)

Also added he is meeting with Conor later today

---

Personally I think the PPV part of the deal is asinine.
the B & C shows will just get lower & lower
& with 12 PPV's that means 6 cards that could have had a great ESPN main won't now.

I don’t get it either. They can’t stack 12 events a year as it is. How do they expect to stack 12 PPV’s plus put quality content on ESPN thirty times a year?

I can usually figure out the business reason, even if I don't agree with it.
Not with this though.
I get being optimistic that 2019 will be better (as far as bigger fights coming in), but that was supposed to be 2018 as well & the first 6 months have been sub-par.

That won't really change the 6 bottom PPV though.
It will help tremendously & give UFC a solid 6 a-level PPV's if Conor fights 3x

6-8 was the most I (& others) expected
It was tongue-in-cheek as I don't see Conor fighting nore than twice a year, but yeah, I agree with you. We don't need a PPV every month.

They probably just want to keep events and an income stream they have control over (and maybe can fudge, idk)

They can't fudge the PPV income
It goes through the providers & all fighters that have points have auditing rights

But I hope that they can renegotiate after 2019
Maybe ESPN will want more content & better marquee matches?

Like I keep saying, WME is stupid as shit in a million ways. Just because you are great at being Hollywood agents and you did big money there does not mean you know what you are doing in MMA.

I personally would rather see just 1 huge PPV in July, I am talking about a PPV that wold be like stacking ufc 100 and ufc 200, raise the price for the 1 PPV to $100, I will gladly pay that for one huge truly epic PPV where you have like 3 titles fights, and every prelim including fight pass prelims are guys ranked in the top 15 of each weightclass

Then have like 8 PPV quality cards that are free ESPN big events, and then have your 18 to 22 fightnight type free cards,

That is what I want, and I think many others also

Didn't you say that they are making more money with a bunch of watered down events than a few big ones? If so than this makes sense. Fill the cards with lower weights and females that they don't have to pay as much and make bank from ads and commercials during the PPV.

I never said that.
But if PPV keeps going into the low 100's they make more off of TV per event
UFC has to realize that PPV in this age is for big events only
Heck Mayweather/Berto did 400k a few years ago & Floyd is the PPV king.

People throw parties around a big PPV & they get huge buys that way.
Nobody is partying for a Nunes, Mighty Mouse PPV

WME/UFC has to be smart now & look to the future.
They admitted in 2016 they wanted to do less PPV in 2019.
Not sure what changed
Like i mentioned, maybe they have an idea they can contractually try in 2020?

So about a third will be worth buying.

I wish theyd just put on 30 or so events. Have them bi weekly.

Quality over quantity.

12 a year would be awesome if there were no other cards. Just imagine 12 stacked ppv’s where every fight was one you wouldn’t want to miss.

seems like the trend of 12 ppv =

1 or 2 stacked ppv (3 great fights, 1 great prelim)

6 ok ppv (1 great - good, 1 descent, descent overall prelim)

5 dogshit ppv (Amanda Nunes vs _______, rest of the main card that would be just a good prelim)

When the current UFC goes the way of Affliction, the Fertittas will be long remembered as geniuses.

They should do it like wrestling did back in the day. You had 4 big PPVs... Wrestlemania, Summerslam, Royal Rumble, Survivor Series and then just have a bunch of pretty big televised events to work up to the big shows

In other words ...
Conor pulled an all-nighter after Bellator & was too FOOKED up
Could've been a power move. Dana flies all the way to England just to meet and Conor can't even be bothered to take a 55-min flight from Dublin lol

Conor was supposed to be in England to see a Bellator fight that one of his guys was in. So it made sense.
Now he has to fly to Vegas.
Doesn't seem like a smart power move since he now has 14 hr flight ;)
