Despite both fighters showing interest in facing each other, Dana White has stated a fight between Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone is nowhere near close to happening.

Both fighters have exchanged words in the past, most infamously at the UFC’s ‘Go Big’ press conference in 2015. However it was after Cerrone’s most recent win against Alexander Hernandez at UFC Brooklyn last month that McGregor posted a tweet saying he would fight ‘Cowboy.’

It didn’t take long for Cerrone to reply to McGregor’s message, posting a picture on his Instagram account showing his interest in the fight. Talks have since broken down though according to the UFC president White, as he addressed the potential fight…

This would be the one fight that I don’t think the trash talk would get to cerrone. He’s talked to the media multiple times about how conor would separate himself from the other fighters and act as though he was better than them. I think that disdain may be enough for him to get over the ‘need to be friends’ curse that’s plagued him in the past.

I believe Donald has the tools to rip Conor apart and would love to see him get his red panty night and ride off into the sunset with his wife and boy.

They're still posting odds for the match up on sports book (FanDuel) for 7/7.

Cerrone is due a payday. He's put in the work and been a company man. If they don't set this fight up its only because they think it's a bad matchup for conor.

Problem is they've been so used to paying Cowboy 10 to show and 2 to win they know they'll lose out on their old faithful if they're forced to give him red panty money.

A second problem is Conor doesn't do so well with guys with longer reach. 0-3 Conor would be as damaged goods as it gets.

Per Joe Rogan the issue is they're required to have all PPV main events be for a title (explains all of the interim belts) so they wanted this as a co-main. Fuck the belts, this is a main event right here and they're stupid to not make it happen because of that stupid "requirement".

That 'requirement' doesn't exist. Neither Conor-Diaz fight was for a belt. Rogan must be high.

How long ago were those fights? Things can change. Companies can make things standard whenever they want. The way things have been going with interims belts and champ champs I wouldn’t be surprised if they did make that a requirement for PPVs.

In fact the last PPV that didn’t have a main event for a title was Conor vs Nate way back in 2016.

The last PPV that didn't have a title fight in the main was less than a month ago, champ. And I'd hardly consider 2016 'way back' anyway.

Who knows exactly what the UFC is thinking with these negotiations but the only 'requirement' the UFC imposes on itself is to make money.

If you’re talking about Israel v Anderson, up until the day before that main event was for a title. Lol

    Correct.

But your argument is "it's a 'requirement' for all UFC PPVs to have a title fight, except the ones that don't, because they usually do". That's not a requirement, that's just what the normally do.

I presented to you evidence that the UFC has in recent history not required a title fight to headline a card to which you seemed to argue 'well that was a whole 2 1/2 years, we've entered a new epoch in human history and that's not possibly relevant'. Then I pointed out that it in fact has also happened not a month ago to which your argument is 'yeah, well, that's different'.

But that's precisely the point, champ. There are always exceptions. Your requirement is a requirement until it's not.

There are exceptions only when absolutely needed. It's not a stretch to think they've made it a policy to book title fights for all PPV main events unless the main event falls apart a day before hand. But the effort from the beginning was to make it a title fight. And 2.5 years is plenty of time for a company to change their policies for something like this. I would say the record proves this more than the one exception in the last 2.5 years. lol

It's big of you to admit that you were wrong.
