When asked by TMZ about who McGregor was going to fight next, Dana White gave a UFC fighter as an option - and also threw Mayweather out there:

"I don't know. You know, he obviously has a lot of opportunities right now. Tony Ferguson is out there. The Floyd Mayweather thing is out there. We'll see how this thing plays out."

When the surprised reporter asked if it was still on the table, White confirmed it and said he wouldn’t hold McGregor back from it:

"Yeah, I mean there's...it doesn't make a lot of sense for my business, but I would never keep Conor from making that kind of money.”

Dana won’t hold McGregor back from Mayweather fight

This is not news .
It kinda fucking is actually m8. The last couple of months he said everything opposite, Connor is under contract etc.

Its good if he wouldn't try to prevent the fight from happening.

Mayweather/Connor will happen. Dana knows this. The purse will be in excess of 50mill each. He will be in a pretty decent bargaining position. The UFC will be in Connor's hands to do what he wilt. The UFC will be brought to it's knees. Dana knows this. The actual fight will be a non-event snooze fest like the Ali/Pro- Wrestler fights. The Carny barker schtick still works. Watch.

Floyd said he is ready.

Dana said he won't get in the way.

Conor, your move, bud.

What if WME-IMG produces the fight and Dana gets a slice? I'd be promoting it too.
Wme and dana will not let the fight happen without taking their chunk. It will be out of conor's side since they have zero control over mayweather.

Also, i care so much about this fight that I've booked (by putting deposits down) every venue in the US for the rest of the year.....

I can't wait!

Okay so I was pretty sure this fight was going to happen, but honestly this feels like it makes it less likely. I don't think the UFC would let Conor do it without taking a piece, because it sets a precedent that I'm not sure they want to set. The UFC not getting involved presents a couple of options in my opinion.
1. They suspect the fight is not going to happen, and they are taking the opportunity to not look like the people who made it not happen.
2. They don't want to go to court with Conor over his contract, and have the UFC contract scrutinized in litigation regarding whether or not their fighters can compete in boxing.

I could be way off, but the UFC stepping aside and allowing this to happen without them getting a cut is so out of left field that I feel suspicious about the whole thing.

I could be wrong though. What do you guys think?

Zero chance the UFC lets him do it without taking a cut of the earnings.

This could actually be a good thing because if they allow Conor to get his ass whooped they can't deny other fighters who want to fight outside the UFC without a lawsuit

Maybe they have something worked out where the UFC profits but doesn't have an active role in the promotion? This just seems like a weird series of events. Not the way I saw this going down. I figured Dana would want to be at the forefront of everything.

Which is why I think something else is going on. If they let Conor do it and they step aside completely, it sets a precedent that they obviously won't want to set.

During Conor's $5 interview with Ariel (which I of course paid for), he said that he thinks it would be best to do something that benefits all 3 parties (him, Floyd, and the UFC).

It's free on YouTube now so I watched some of it last night. I still think this is likely to happen, but for some reason Dana's comment was a little ominous in my eyes. I can usually see what he's doing but this doesn't seem as transparent (mostly because it seems too transparent).

I think it's number two. No one would take the UFC's side and them holding Connor back would likely be the the lynch pin in the fighters organizing a union.
