Daniel Cormier fires back at Donald Cerrone

Donald Cerrone wasn’t excited about Daniel Cormier’s win over Anderson Silva atUFC 200, but his criticism towards Cormier were too much for the UFC light heavyweight champion.

"Cowboy" ripped Cormier during a Q&A at the UFC Fan Expo the day after UFC 200 in Las Vegas, saying the champion fought "like a f*g" Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena. Cerrone apologized later, but that wasn’t good enough for Cormier.

"My reaction to Donald is shut up. Has he lost his mind?" Cormier said on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour. "I mean, what was this guy talking about? Donald Cerrone, who made you the person… on what ground does he stand on to be able to say something like that to someone like me?

"He can tell me stuff. If he had a problem with the way I performed, he could have told me in the back that day. ‘DC, it wasn’t a very good fight, man, I didn’t like it.’ But to do it publicly? Who are you?"

He's not gonna say anything really bad about the people at Jackson's. Can't remember the details, but he talked a little shit about Jon on a podcast some time ago, but I think they are good now. DC is Jon's enemy so by default he is probably an enemy to Cowboy too,

I think Cowboy is a massive attention whore who wilts when things get tough(see Nate Diaz fight). I agree with the sentiment he expressed though. DC was given a gift fight of an old, out of shape, recovering from surgery, 2-days notice, Spider. In return for that gift, he owed the paying fans an exciting fight. Instead, he L&P'd. You could tell he was embarrassed in the post fight interview and he should have been embarrassed.

Put yourself in his shoes, with a last minute notice fight with a striker........that's what he does, that is his strength. He's not a striker, per se, so no problem with what he did....

As a paying fan, considering what we could've had and what we got, I was severely disappointed.

I'm sure he was too when he found out about Jones, and I see what you're saying, but that's no excuse for putting on a shitty fight. It just reminds me why I'm not a fan of DC, when he can get away with it, he puts on shitty fights, hasn't been the first time I've been bored with him. I would've rathered if they hadn't had the fight on the card at all after what we got.

Jones strength is Wrestling too, but I can't remember the last time he did what DC did, he usually beats his opponents up on the ground.

Not everyone is comfortable fighting six times a year for peanuts and at a moments notice.

I can't blame Cormier for that at all.

Some guys go out there and fight the exact same game plan every fight. Obviously Cormier is not one of those guys. He probably watches a ton of tape and it's customizing which combinations and takedowns he's planning.

He walked out there and with no effort beat a short-notice replacement. He did it with zero injury and is ready to fight again right away.

At the time of the Jon Jones fight removal only the Jon Jones a sample was back. Is possible that the B sample could have come back negative allowing Jones to fight again soon.

Beyond just needing to be ready for Jon Jones as soon as possible, Cormier is not getting younger. He is near the end of his career if you listen to his words and look at the age of most Fighters at that weight class. Going out there and risking injury to the short notice replacement that is getting paid more than you are to be there is silly.

But beyond all that obvious risk and benefit analysis, I hardly see how the fight sucked because of Cormier. Cormier didn't put himself in any risk standing up. But Anderson Silva holding a deep half guard hoping for the stand up wasn't exactly threatening any submissions either. And with 10 years of watching Anderson Silva have questionable takedown defense in wrestling, I can't help but put an equal amount of focus on Anderson's performance despite the short notice.

Atleast it was mostly standing, my point is that even though Jones has a Wrestling base he didn't just take OSP down the whole time. I'd rather watch that fight over DC vs Anderson.

The latter literally had me falling asleep.
