After turning away Anthony Johnson at the UFC 187 pay-per-view (PPV) eventback in May, reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will move on to defend his 205-pound strap against new division No. 1 contender Alexander Gustafsson later this year.
Unfortunately, we can't yet say when or where.
That's because "DC" needs to have his leg pumped full of platelet rich plasma (PRP) after suffering significant ACL damage in one of his 36-year-old knees, according to Ariel Helwani on UFC Tonight, who also reports that Cormier opted for stem-cell treatment over surgery.
Assuming he's able to get his knee juiced up without incident, and doesn't encounter any additional setbacks inside his "stone age" gym, Cormier will campaign for the headlining spot at the upcoming UFC 192 PPV event on Oct. 3, 2015 in Houston, Texas.
By then, we'll probably know what's happening with Jon Jones, who was stripped of his title and suspended earlier this year for felony hit-and-run (not that you would know it from this smile). I'm sure the delay is just fine with Gustafsson, who's seen his share of knee issues over the last few months.
See you in October ... we hope.
