Bellator featherweight champ Daniel Straus admits nobody is beating down his door to sign with another MMA promotion. If he received another offer, though, he would consider it.

“I’m a fighter that’s here to provide for my family,” Straus (25-6 MMA, 11-3 BMMA) told MMAjunkie Radio. “I love Bellator. I don’t see myself leaving. I’ve never been offered another contract. I’ve never talked about another contract. So it’s never been there on that table. Right now, it seems like Bellator is a good home for me.

“But I definitely want to get paid for my efforts. I’m not saying I’m not getting paid, but that’s just how the business is.”

With “a couple” fights remaining on his current contract, and a bad injury that could sideline him until this fall, Straus isn’t thinking about anything other than getting healthy. He said a bone in his left hand is not healing as expected and could keep him out of the gym for three to four months.

The injury came after Straus won back the title he lost to Patricio Freire in a rematch this past November.

Free agency might be a hot topic, particularly for the Viacom-owned promotion, which seeks to bolster its roster at every opportunity. But if Straus isn’t medically cleared to fight, his career won’t move forward.

“If it came about, I would explore free agency, but that’s the furthest thing from my mind right now,” he said.

He would, but I'm glad he's staying.
Exactly, I like that Bellator is building up a stable of fighters that they have built. They need to retain their own guys just as much as they need to poach quality UFC/WSOF to build up the organization.

i agree with this but often times, it isnt as simple as that. numbers are the name of the game at the end of the day. id like to see bellator keep their homegrown talent while picking alot of new talent up so that they could square off.

seems like some of the higher ranked fighers are happy at bellator. caldwell stated that he would like to stay as well if the numbers add up. straus is basically saying he isnt in a rush to leave.

im very interested in seeing what fight caldwell gets next. if he fights for the title, that basically states that bellator would try to keep him as champ. if he doesnt fight for the title in his next and final fight, they probably didnt agree on something and caldwell will test the waters.... they need to keep caldwell though; the man is a beast.

After what he did to Warren, any fight besides a title fight is pointless
