--unless youre from Houston.

Im just shocked the Dean Corll case isnt talked about more.

Cliff Notes ver.

In the early 1970s young boys began missing from a working class neighbourhood the Heights in the suburbs of Houston. At the time the police was heavily under staffed as the police chief refused to request more budget from the government to hire more police officers. As a result, many crime was ignored and the missing boys were assumed to be runaways until the police were called to a house on 2020 Lamar in Pasadena Tx.

Outside they found 3 teenagers, one of which confessed to shooting the lone occupant dead. The police found the nude body of 33 year old Dean Corll riddled with bullets laying in a pool of blood. One of the teenagers, Elmer Wayne Henley 17 told the police that he had shot Corll in self defense. That Corll had bound the three teens after they had passed out from a night of drinking and drugs at Corlls house. He said that Corll was a rapist and was going to rape torture and kill all three teenagers.

Young Elmer was lauded as a hero but soon a sinister tale started to emerge as Henley told his story at the police station. There were more bodies. "Around 30" Henley recalled. How would he know that? He was there.

This was a precurser to Gacy and the world had not used to the concept of a rapist and serial killer of young boys before. In fact the handcuff trick that Gacy used to subdue his victims was originally taken from Dean Corll.

Why doesnt anyone talk about Dean Corll? Maybe because he died before his crimes were ever exposed. Maybe people didnt want to talk about it because homosexuality was still largely unacceptable then and even though these boys were victims of unspeakable crime it was embarassing for the families to cope with hearing about their boys being raped by a man and killed for his sadistic pleasure. Maybe because Houston police were embarassed that they never caught Corll or even had any idea he was operating under their noses and what they assumed to be runaways were innocent victims of a sadistic homosexual hedophilic serial killer.

The upsetting part is that Houston PD called off the search for more bodies once they hit 27 recovered even though there is very probably many more. 27 was all that Henley knew about but Corll was killing before his two accomplices Brooks and Henley became involved with Corll. One known victim was never found. His body remains buried at High Island beach. His remains may never be uncovered as that area of beach is now under water since hurrican Ike. Very sad story.

Real images of the crime scenes places and victims.

A dramatized program of events.

Corll a very normal looking guy. Every one remark how nice and well mannered he was.

Polaroid found in Henleys belongings of unknown boy.

I am just fascinated about this case because I believe there are still victimes out there waiting to be uncovered. Its a terrible injustice that they may never be found and that nobody even knows they are deceased and that Corll truly got away with their murders.

On the other side of things I think it proves police were just as terrible toward poor white people as they were to poor black people and just terrible all around at policing.

You're right, I'd never heard of that.
When I was younger I studied all serial killers. I guess you could've call me a runaway myself, ergo...
Thanks for sharing one I missed.

What's so strange is Corll was good looking. He could easily have gotten young boyfriends. Why did he have to kill?

Even more so mind tangling thing about this case is that one of the remains found 40 years ago has never been identified.

"Swimsuit boy" has never been claimed or linked to missing persons at the time. His family may not have reported him missing and thought he simply ran away.

That makes these killings all the more sad to me. These were poor kids and it seems like very few people cared for them in life and in death. If Henley hadn't shot Dean, then these killings would likely have continued and the dead have disintegrated in that boat shed and their pain and suffering never known. :(
