I'm Canadian. My wifes mom was a cleaning lady and her dad a custodian for many years. Her mom had hardly any education, her dad was an engineer but couldn't afford to go to school to certify to Canadian standards while providing for his family. They worked their asses off in shit jobs to give their kids a better life.

In my opinion, when I'm spending more money than most of these people make in a year for a couple weeks of vacation, their efforts are worth a few bucks a day.

Last time I was in Mexico it averaged out to about 20 bucks a day.

For the extra service my family received (my parents included even though they don’t really tip but because the staff knew we were together) It was worth every penny.

I am in hotels about 10-15 nights per month for work. I rarely, if ever leave a tip. Although if for some reason, I leave a mess, I’ll leave 5-10 bucks, like if my wife and kids join me.

I'm a chronic Hotel Maid flasher. One morning in LA I was still wasted from the night before and was laying naked on my hotel bed with a big boner, listening to the maids outside the door. One of them knocked and I didn't answer so she walked in, straight past my bed to open the curtains, then turned around and stared at me laying on the bed. I was peeping through slits in my eyes, it was so hot to watch her staring at my cock. Then she left the room and I jumped up and stared through the eye peep hole thing, and she had a big smile on her face.

She got more than just the tip.

I always leave a huge mess so yes. Beer bottles and half snorted coke everywhere, usually some vomit and semen as well.

I tend to tip specifically, like at a great café or hotel reception I will leave something in the tip jar (which I hope is distributet to the whole team, not just the person that happened to be in contact with me) or at the car wash when they are doing a great job with the interiours.
I would be more generous with tips when travelling to countries where the people don't earn as much as in Germany. Like in Poland a guy picked us up as a group from the airport and drove through the night in the snow for 1,5h up a super big mountain, almost never braking, always in control and at the physically maximum speed possible with a bus full of people. I made sure to stay behind when everybody had already left, gestured to him what a great job that was and because why not I gave him a humble amount of cash as a sign of my appreciation : D

I guess tipping works differently in different parts of the world also. I know that Chinese restaurants they never want tip, noticed that in different countries.
When I was in Colombia the people there were so nice and they were doing you a favour and they did not want to be tipped for it (I speak good Spanish though). Some people there even looked almost disappointed like "Man, I did you a favour, from me to you, for free. I didn't have money in the back of my mind. What are you thinking about me here?"

I prefer giving a "tip" to a beggar who looks like he/she really needs it or a nice street musician who deserves it etc.

-> I'm thinking, is it possible to tip a police officer or people with jobs like that? :D

I flew to Frankfurt twice a few weeks ago. Huuuuuuge airport. And Fuck Lufthansa. In English it means “excuses”. Beautiful part of the country on the Rhine. I made a thread about it.

We were on an all inclusive cruise. So no tipping. The ship staff were amazing. We broke the rules and gave the waiter 100 Euros and left 40 for the room cleaner who was male. Our waiter every night went out of his way for us. He hid beer for me they were running low on. He took care of the young kids every night and brought my mother in law 2 deserts every night (which she didn’t need) lol. If there was a tip jar at the Beer Gardens I always left a tip. The beer and Riesling is so good there.
