Im only interested in arguing with those who believe it does but still insist that others also take the leap with them.

I was talking to a very close friend who takes his kids to church and while not forcing them encourages them to believe in the good word.

Now he admits that there is a leap of faith required to follow his religion, I asked how he thinks its okay for him to encourage his kids follow something that falls short of proven and requires a leap of faith?I likened it to insisting that your kids believe in aliens or otherwise, we cant prove either yet so why not let them make their minds up?

Its a theoretical debate, I wasnt suggesting he actually raise his kids how I see fit, just like debating these things cause I always win.

Whos up for it? Leigh @Leigh ? @Alienator ?

Niggas lets run this shit

I guess i'm not one to do it with, since i don't require others to believe what i believe. :D

No matter your belief system whether religion or science we all are taking massive leaps of faith.
When we believe science there is proof behind it, when we believe in god or atheism that has zero proof.

Heres another angle, lets both get bitten by a venomous snake, you try praying your way back to health, ill go the scientific anti venom route :)

I think jhb was referring to theories. Plenty of those are accepted as fact without proof.

Jesus protects me from snakes bites, proof being I've never suffered from a snake bite

You take that proof on faith. When you go to the doctor you have no idea what they are putting in your body. How many people get hooked on pain pills and eventually meth because of what science tells them they need. Not saying they are comparable but there are loads of stories out there of people being told by doctors they have no chance yet are miraculously healed. Crazy shit, often unexplainable happens. Big bang, macro evolution, and a million other scientific models are all take on faith. Hell the best theory out there for how there is life on earth among scientists today is hi jacked directly from comics. They believe in the multiverse.

That means that in the infinite universes, somewhere... I'm Batman. We are all Batman.

I'm cool with that. :D

No thats proof you live in Canada, I dont believe in Jesus, live in hell aka Australia and havent been bitten by a snake

Those a clearly defined as hypothesis, the scientific method requires that one must test them prior to them being accepted as fact
Correct. Plenty of people disregard the proof portion of the process though.

Okay scientific proof that water is made of h2o

1 molecule of water is made up of 2 Hydrogen and 1 oxygen atoms because if electrolysis of water is done by adding a little dilute sulphuric acid (as pure water does not dissociate into ions)to it, there are three types of ions produced:

1.H+ IONS
2.SO4- IONS
3.OH- IONS
The reactions:
H2O»H+ + OH-
H2SO4»2H+ + SO4-

Thus,
H+ ion being positively charged migrates towards the anode and is collected in a collecting tube whereas OH- ions are given higher preference than SO4- ions as they have a low discharge potential and they migrate towards the anode to form oxygen which is collected in a collecting tube.

At anode:
4OH-»O2+2H2O+4e-
At cathode:
2H+ + 2e-»H2

Thus this shows that water molecule is made up of oxygen and hydrogen.

Proof that Jesus is the son of God

A bunch of stories compiled 160 years after he is said to have existed by bunch of illiterate goat herders who thought the world is flat and that eating shellfish is a sin.

I rest my case.

Thats like saying plenty of Christians dont actually believe in the divinity of Christ but rather the underlying message

Im not talking about those people nor am I talking about the people who blindly believe scientific hypothesis, bro science, womens weekly et al

The difference between the two systems is the method of scientific testing vs blind faith

Of course you're not talking about those people. That wouldn't fit the narrative.

People want to believe in something greater than themselves regardless of belief system. It's human nature.

Round 2 Vutu
I live in Canada, thanks to Jesus of course. You thinks it's a coincidence that you the non believer lives in a area more prone to snake bites while I the lamb of God am enjoying the great white north? The sooner you connect the dots the sooner you'll be set on the path of righteousness.

And FWIW

Despite the high number of venomous snakes in Australia, only about 2 to 4 deaths occur every year from snakebites

Snake Bite Death Statistics Worldwide

Perhaps this "hell" you describe is more self inflicted, luckily I have the solution.

Round 3 Kelly. This is not a championship debate as Vutu is in no position to challenge for the title therefore Kelly is the victor.

"I'd like to thank my lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I can win all e-debates with his strength that runs through me. Please lord welcome this weak pathetic mortal even though he has smited ye."

No because they are irrelevant, the scientific method does not call for them to blindly follow scientific hypothesis. All religions besides Buddhism do (trying to steer this away from a science v Christianity debate)
