Dominick Cruz says if they going to pay him 100 times what he makes now, "Conor McGregor money", he'll do pretty much anything the UFC asks him to do.

Dominick Cruz doesn't really want to take sides in the "battle" between Conor McGregor and the UFC. He understands both sides of things - he's done his fair share of promotion, and also knows what it's like to want to focus on fighting coming off a loss. But as a guest on The MMA Hour, he also said he'd do drastic things if he was making the money Conor was - heck, even he'd live with a media member for his camp (via MMA Fighting):

"When you look at what the UFC wants, they want you to do the media," Cruz said. "Conor is a failure of his own success. He's so good at this media that they're going to ask him to do a ton. But I'll be…

Conor wants to just do whatever he wants. Personally I'm glad uncle Dana dropped the hammer a bit. Zuffa is smarter then letting a nobody fighter get of them. Now when I say nobody I say that because I'm sure Zuffa just looks at all these guys like they are beneath them.

I would love to see Dom & McGregor fight, simply for the trash talk leading up to it. The two best trash talkers in the game, and Cruz is a master of it. It would be epic.

Cruz would clown Conor. Conor has rehearsed bullshit that works great on Brazillians. Look at how Conor reacted when Nate didnt bite on his rehearsed bullshit.

Cruz is an intellectual shit talker, conor is just loud, and sometimes funny.

Two best?

99% sure a couple months back we all watched Conor get circles shit talked around him, despite his written lines, by a guy who has been mumbling with gravel in his mouth for ten years....

I love Nate but he is not exactly Tony Robbins on the mic, and Conor had nothing for him.

Conor did dominate the shit talk against his last opponent before that, you know, the one who doesn't speak english....

I think Conor's pageantry and flamboyance is mistaken for orator skills, he is also brutally repetitive when he talks

You make valid points, but his interviews and press conferences are some of the most watched in MMA. Tough to deny MMA fans (especially casual ones) hang on the guys every word. Doesn't mean he didn't get owned by Nate...but just saying, a match up between him and Cruz would be a lot of fun.

^ I watch for the pageantry and flamboyance, totally acknowledging he draws me in with that, linguistically I think he is pretty weak when fight promoting, he is a better speaker in general conversation (longer form).

Overall I am just glad someone let the poor kid know that slim fit suits are 'slim FIT' not spandex, lmao, a few of those suits he was wearing a while back looked painted on.

I don't think Cruz is good at it per se.
He has a mean streak and isn't funny. Got that chip on his shoulder thing going on.
McGregor is funnier.
Stylistically an interesting fight... but will never happen. McGregor's time with the belt is short.... and at 145 maybe even shorter.

Agreed. I think in many ways Conor's perpetual hype surrounding his verbal skills, is just that, hype that never had a solid foundation to it. He has just ripped off Floyd's 'money' persona and not really added anything else of note. He has been successfully marketed by Zuffa like no person ever before, including crazy Ronda. Zuffa were forcing him down people's throats before many hardcores had even heard of him. His Irish novelty gives him an extra edge, where even the accent makes the fairly mundane and repetitive things he says sound funny to idiots.

I'm not arguing that he and the Zuffa marketing team have captured the imaginations of people, but that has nothing to do with assessing his actual verbal ability, both in terms of psychological warfare and humor.

He's not awful and certainly he got under Aldo's skin. He pulls out a good rehearsed one-liner like 'balloon animals' every now and then as well. But to compare that to Chael's at times genuinely hilarious rehearsed material, or Chael's less impressive but still effective improvisation and Cruz's improvised wit and ability to mentally dissect anyone who challenges him is laughable. Even Rampage Jackson with his awful 'breaf stanks' routine still had a memorable moment with the note from his mom to Igor, so you would expect Conor to land a hit every now and then if that is all he tries to do.

I think one needs to bear in mind the context. Someone who gets punched and kicked in the head for a living probably found greater success in life with their physical talents than their mental ones.

Expecting fighters or other athletes to be intelligent because they are celebrities is like expecting academics to be good fighters.

You get exceptions like Klitchkos or that British female fighter with a phd but for the most part it feels like a waste of energy judging a fighter for every non-fighting thing they do.
