It seems like they have "No Love" for each other... get it? Anyone? Nevermind...

After a brutal stoppage win over #11 ranked bantamweight Takeya Mizugaki, Cody Garbrandt had some choice words for champion Dominick Cruz, who was doing desk duty for the Fox Sports team as an analyst. Not a bad moment to do so, considering that the champion was right there and Garbrandt seems closer and closer to an opportunity to test himself against Cruz.

For all of his best efforts, it seemed to have not impressed Cruz in the slightest. The champ remained as unflappable as ever, and addressed some of the things that Garbrandt has been saying in interviews and dismissing the young fighter as just another future notch in his belt. Most curious was Dominick's reaction to a backstage conversation that…

Cruz is really just trying to pump up the rivalry. He is an analyst, UFC has been pushing Garbrandt like crazy even before the Almeida fight, it's his own division, plus he obsesses over everything Faber does and says so I'm sure he knew exactly who Garbrandt was. He knows he could lose, he's gotten hit pretty squarely several times in his fights but you can't absorb that from Garbrandt.

Plus he is such a good analyst, which is why he is the worst when he uses that platform to talk crap about his opponents. It really sticks out like a sore thumb (or a sore ego). For some reason it seems worse to me when he does it than when the other analysts do it.

And the CM Punk thing I don't get. Is it just a tattoo thing? Garbrandt's background is totally different and I'm sure Cruz knows it well. I wonder how CM Punk would feel to know he has become an insult people are flinging at each other and he hasn't even fought yet...?

How has the UFC been pushing Garbrandt?

I think the CM reference was a lame joke on Cruz's part.

And I don't think Brooks has any delusions about where he is in the MMA world.

The CM Punk thing is due to the fact that they both seem to have an affinity for bad tattoos and hipster hairstyles. What better way to be dismissive of some young kid than to "confuse" him with a pro wrestler that's a bit of a joke in the MMA world.

And Punk knew what he was in for when he signed to go straight to the UFC. He has thick skin though and is making more money than most legitimate fighters so I doubt that he's overly concerned about what people say.

Also, I actually prefer it coming from Cruz because he's so fantastic at breaking down fights that it really means something when he says that a fighter has no chance due to a,b,c. Then he throws in some trash for general purposes to make it fun. It's ruthless.

I can't remember the fight but I remember he was their man crush monday once a long time ago, and they featured him here and there on tv.
I think some of that was based on the Faber love fest and some based on the PVZ love fest. Then he knocked a couple of guys stupid so it made sense to start pushing him recently.
