A few weeks ago, veteran lightweight contender Donald Cerrone was fined by the UFC for violating the Reebok's outfitting policy at last month's UFC on FOX 17. According to Cerrone, the violation was for sewing an unauthorized patch, which pays homage to his grandmother, onto his fight trunks.

As you would expect from Cerrone, he's not backed off on this issue at all. After news of his fine went public, he told fans on Twitter that he would continue to take the fines and wear his patch. Today on his Instagram page, Cerrone posted a picture of himself sporting and promoting Nike clothing, and it's written in a way that suggests it's a jab at Reebok's uniform quality.

My guess his thinking's going "I'm gonna wear my grandma's patch, I'm gonna get heavily fined again, so just go all out"...or maybe along the lines of "FUCK YOU REEBOK, YEEEEHA!

It's fair game right? He can promote anyone as long as it's not on fightweek from what understand. I might be wrong as I think I read somewhere that they could have sponsors but not promote them during there events. In any case good for him on taking a stand against this shit. Fuck Reebok !

Personally I think it's more ridiculous that you would throw money away just to display a patch no one else gives a shit about anyway. Should have just sewn it on the inside, but he's clearly a drama llama :)

That is my understanding as well. He can wear/promote whatever he wants as long as it's not fight week. I don think of they can say shit about this. What "they" can do is nail his ass harder and harder everytime he wear the patch in the future.

I wonder at what point the fighters will start getting nailed with ridiculously huge fines, then get offered to have the fines reduced if they promote Reebok on their social media.

Cerrone "gives a shit about" the patch. I don't think anything else matters to him. He's not "throwing away" money, he's having it withheld. Every time he does this, Zuffa and Reebok (by association) will only continue to look worse. When the fines go up, the rancor will increase. If fighters want change, this is how to do it. Meathead being barefoot, Cerrone wearing his own patches, Schaub posting his fucking tax returns.

Protest works, brah.

Some stuff is worth than that Reebok money. Lol Reebok money. Wonder how much he loss in Budweiser as he can't promote them during fights? Dana would probably say he was getting paid in beer and Reebok deal was a God send

makes me wonder what would have happened if Gilbert Melendez chose to wear his Giblert shirt to every fight

Fuck reebok. I will never buy a single reebok product in my life (unless I already did and forgot)

Donald should start selling replicas of his patch to make up lost revenue. I'd buy one

Ufc is in charge of fighter pay, including the reebok money. This isn't reebok calling the shots, it's the ufc.
