Anyone deal with dumb people at work? How do you handle them? How do you handle their bosses that defend their lack of common sense because "they aren't technical"?

I rarely speak to anyone anymore for that reason. Accept that they're dumb, get your work done and go home until something better bites. That is, if you're looking. Looking for new surroundings also helps. I forget who posted the quote but it said,"if you're the smartest guy in the room, you're probably in the wrong room."

Unfortunately I'm in IT so some of the morons are my customers. I'm definitely not that smartest guy in the room, there are many many talented developers and dba here, it's just our sister company sucksssssss, and I have to support them as well. I probably should have gone into more detail.

i believe like 75% of any particular office is composed of the lazy and incompetent. half of the rest is just lazy. most companies i've worked at (and this is in silicon valley) are pushed forward by 10-12% of their actual workforce.

biggest obstacle in the way of most innovation and progress? executives "helping".

Bang my head on the desk repeatedly, roll my eyes excessively, scream at my phone on mute, avoid them whenever possible, etc. I'm dealing with someone at the moment who literally makes me think I may go crazy if I have to work with them for even one more minute.

It's the worst, ugh I can't wait to not have to deal with it anymore.

Even managers should have some technical grasp but I feel you, I've had to deal with many so called 'senior managers' who are not only incompetent at organisation but also have terrible people skills. What baffles me, is these managers are normally the ones with the fucking ego trip because it's the only thing that masks there utter uselessness to the company. The issues starts from the top, looks like there are bosses in your company who shouldn't be.

It's really our sister company to be honest. When she told me he doesn't really know how to use a pc because he's not a tech expert, he only knows how to use 1 piece of software, I asked her if a carpenter would keep his job if he didn't know how to use a hammer.
