Edgar’s manager Ali Abdel-Aziz was approached by the UFC to take the fight against McGregor on essentially 10 day’s notice, yet Edgar had to turn it down as he’s midway through recovering from a torn groin. That’s the first, most basic thing that peeved him — the missed opportunity.

"I got a call from Ali saying that Rafael dos Anjos got hurt, and [the UFC] had texted him, ‘will Frankie fight him at 155?’ And, I’ve been hurt for the past four weeks," a fired up Edgar told MMA Fighting on Wednesday. "I’m pissed off for a couple of reasons. I’m pissed off that I’ve got this opportunity slip through again. I’m sitting here, I’m the one who’s been trying to fight this guy for months now. I’m flying myself to Vegas on my own dime to lobby to get a fight with this guy and now here comes the opportunity, and I’m hurt and I can’t take it. I haven’t done anything in four weeks. I didn’t just pull my groin, I tore it. I sent Dana and everyone in the UFC my MRI."

Yet there was plenty else wrong with the picture that rankled Edgar further, especially in how things were worded.

"I’m even more pissed that Dana’s insinuating that I ‘refused’ to take this fight, which is bullsh*t," he said. "Just because they asked me doesn’t mean they were going to give it to me because guess what, in July they asked me to take the [UFC 189] fight on 15 day’s notice, which of course I accepted, and I still didn’t get it.

"I have a feeling that if I had said ‘yes,’ if Ali had texted back ‘yes,’ that fight still would have went to Nate Diaz. I think Nate Diaz was the fight they were trying to make since the beginning. From what I hear they contacted Nate even before they contacted me. But now Dana wants to go around saying that I ‘refused ‘to take this fight, and I don’t know if he’s going to try to use it against me in the future when another opportunity comes up where I can fight for the belt, and he’s going to say, ‘well, you had your opportunity and you said no.’"

McGregor was attempting to make history by becoming the first fighter to hold belts in two different weight classes concurrently. Yet well before his March 5 date with dos Anjos he was already flirting with the idea of a move to 170 pounds to challenge for that title, as well. The UFC, who has thus far been in compliance with McGregor’s big picture plans, made the short notice fight with dos Anjos’ replacement Diaz at 170 pounds.

"And this is what my team was pissed at," Edgar said. "This dude, they were going to let this guy hold the 145-pound title, go up to 55, now two weight classes are being held up. And now they’re saying he’s going to go up to 70. This is a circus. The ‘C’ in UFC stands for Conor. This guy runs the show."

Sour grapes. Frankie needs to be calling for a fight with aldo when he's healthy again. Make it clear he's at 45 and willing to fight and beat anyone there. Make it clear that it's his division.

Lol, Frankie is the fight I want, but he hasn't been paying attention.

The 145 train left and I don't think it was ever coming back unless RDA handled Conor with the ferocity of gsp against Penn ii.

Without an exclamation point that Conor needs to stay the best 145er Frankie is gonna be waiting a looonngggggg time.

He's right, Conor does run the show. He's been telling everyone since last year. Why so surprised still? :)

Frankie should be the first one to get a crack at Conor at 45 though. This sucks for him I'm sure. A hard worker that guy. Hard not to like. But can't blame Conor for riding this crazy train out till he hits a wall, what fighter wouldn't grab that oppertunity?

Jesus, that is some junior infants level trash talk. That is part of the reason you keep getting looked over Frankie, it sucks and it's not fair but tis the way it is.

Agreed. That's a winning strategy and a way back from Aldo too.

Frankie is losing mind share with every passing week.

He could co-main real fast and improve his bargaining position.

I see his point regarding Dana making it sound like he didn't want the fight, kind of. It was publicized that Frankie turned the fight down because he was injured. I am not sure what the UFC could have done differently in this situation. Other situations, yeah he has a legitimate beef.. but in this particular situation I think Frankie's frustration is focused in a weird direction. He needs to drop Ali and get ahold of a manager with better PR skills.

Yep. He pretty much nailed it, but he'll be labeled a whiny ass by some.
Blah blah bla! Conor would finish him regardless.

Frankie is telling the truth, if dana had balls they would look like conor. He is enslaved to conor.

For some strange reason I envision Dana going to the strip club and his balls yelling "Erie muddafugha!" now. :D

He's complaining about something Dana's been doing for almost the entirety of the his run as president of the company. You jump when the UFC says jump or get labeled a coward by Dana at the next scrum, even if you've just undergone knee surgery, back surgery, torn groin, broken ribs, were knocked unconscious less than two months prior, doesn't matter. If you can walk you can fight, and fight cheap by the way, let's not forget that part. Frankie messed up by not agreeing to take the fight anyway because there was no way the UFC was going to give it him, so he shot himself in the foot...groin on that one.

I agree with Frankie, and I don't think Dana should have framed it like Frankie straight out refused. If Frankie is injured, he's injured. There's no shame in being injured and not able to take a fight on 2-weeks notice.

I don't think Frankie should be looked at in the same light as Aldo, a guy who was supposedly training in anticipation of taking a short notice fight with Conor, only to turn it down when it actually came into fruition.

It's crazy to me that I see the people calling the ufc a circus and not legitimate are the same people defending bellators last abortion.

Why would the ufc not support Connor moving up to fight for another belt? If they didn't you be claiming the fighters have no control of their own caterers. And what else were they supposed to do? They offered the fight to everyone who made sense. Diaz, cowboy, Edgar, and also. The 2 45ers were injured. Edgar would be waiting for the aldo rematch regardless. You want the title go the chuck route. Beat everyone else's ass till they can't deny you. Force their hand. Don't sit on the sidelines and bitch. While people are losing interest in you Connor is fighting and making money.

Damn Frankie needs a trash talk coach. Look, this is what you do since you didn't do it after the Mendes fight.

Go beat a top 5 guy at FW then get on the mic right after you win. Say Conor has kept his name out of his mouth and is running scared.
"I'll dump that potato eatin irishman on his head 5 times for 5 rounds and there isn't a damn thing he can do about it. Chad Mendes, that guy is Frankie Edgar lite and you saw what he did after he rolled off the couch drinkin bud lite. It took him 2 rounds to do what I did inside of 1."

He's right about almost everything, but the timing is all wrong. Frankie WAS offered the fight, but he's injured. It comes off as sour grapes. 'Having a feeling' about what would've happened if he wasn't injured is pure speculation.
