As per usual, DW lied about how high the DVR numbers are
but if they are doing it, once a year makes a lot more sense

I'm totally confused about this fucking ESPN deal.

What is the future of Fight Pass with all this ESPN shit coming down the pipe?

Can someone explain it?

ESPN+ is only domestic
Fight pass is everywhere but the States
DW said there will be some new FP only content, but he lies a lot
I think ESPN+ might not have the complete catalogue, but there has been conflicting reports

This whole thing seems stupid and like a move in the wrong direction. More and more content should get considated to Fight Pass, not the other way around.

Personally, I miss the days when we were still watching the UFC on Spike.

Might seem that way from the outside, but ...

They are being paid $150m a year for ESPN+
Fight Pass grossed less than 1/3 of that (worldwide)
It might have been the smartest deal UFC ever made

Same with Bellator/Rizin:
Bellator lost money in 2017
Coker overspent & tried PPV & lost millions
DAZN is giving them more money per year ($33m) then they grossed in 2017
It was certainly the smartest decision Bellator ever made

They are both content distributors

Oh, from a business perspective it might work out for them. I was speaking strictly from a consumer perspective.

Events are already spread out between PPV, network and cable television, and Fight Pass. But now if you want to be able to watch everything the UFC has to offer you have to subscribe to YET ANOTHER fucking streaming service?

The shit is just getting laughable at this point.

I get that but its not a volume difference from now

2018: PPV, FP & TV
2019: PPV, ESPN+, TV

ESPN+ is cheaper, so its less money for live content than it is now

You mentioned "move in the wrong direction"
That is content these days
Everyone needs content & overpays for it

Thankfully people are willing to pay a lot during down interest for both companies.

You said earlier than Dana said there would still be exclusive FP events, so if that's true, we're looking at PPV, TV, FP and ESPN+ if you want it all.

I also said he is FoS a lot
There has been zero reported on that & if there is, it will be only a few
So no need to have the $10 a month sub
You can pick & choose
It still will be cheaper

The thing about Fight Pass is that it's still useful for a lot of things beyond just exclusive events. I largely keep Fight Pass around for the back catalog of events so I can do research for betting purposes, so for people like me, no matter how you slice it we're still having to add yet another subscription for the same level of access.

Then when you throw into the mix that Bellator is now about to start airing exclusive events on that DAZN shit, well there we go again.

Pretty soon if you want to have access to all UFC and Bellator content then you're going to have to have access to their PPVs, a cable subscription, Fight Pass, ESPN+ and DAZN.

That's five separate pipelines--each with their own unique cost--to watch events from only two organizations. Talking about getting fucking nickel-and-dimed.

If FP is that important to you for catalogue, you will have a potential issue. But its still not known exactly what goes to where as far as catalogue & when.

But ... welcome to reality & product consumption in 2018 & beyond
There might not be a Bellator without DAZN's guaranteed $33m per *
You can not order every event. I don't watch 60 MMA events a year.
The companies know that.
They made decisions based on the financial health & what the market dictates.
There are alternatives to paying as well.
You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.
If something stops becoming worth it, then I stop paying for it.
I know people that used to go to 10-20 MLB games a year. they now go to maybe 3-5 due to cost.
Sports are big business & never about the fans.
Protest with your wallet or stream if you think they are greedy.
You won't be the only one ;)

* I personally think this is a bigger issue with Bellator.
They are the distant #2 & had a great niche as the "free alternative" to UFC
But the way they did business was losing them money.
I rather have them liquid financially & in the game & having actual profit than going away

Back to TUF

Smart decision doing only one a year, but if it is on ESPN+, I don't see the reason for it since exposure will be very limited
ESPN? That makes a lot of sense.

IIRC...If you subscribe to ESPN+ you will also get FP for $5, which combined equal the cost of what FP is without ESPN+. So if you do both it's really just about the same price as FP was/is.

The only reason I could see for putting TUF on ESPN+ would be if they think that TUF would actually be a meaningful incentive for people to subscribe to ESPN+, kind of like how Star Trek: Discovery exclusively airs on CBS's streaming service, CBS All Access.

I don't know how many people actually give that much of a shit about TUF though.
