Yeah, that sounds about like what I was expecting. Just too bad they haven't ruled that Jacare fight a NC yet

Yoel Romero will become the first UFC fighter to appeal a USADA suspension.

The UFC middleweight was hit with a suspension from the third-party organization recently for a potential anti-doping violation and plans on appealing the ban, sources told MMA Fighting on Tuesday.

MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani was the first to report the news.

Romero failed an out-of-competition drug test in December. His team has claimed that Romero took a dietary supplement that was contaminated with a banned substance. The substance has yet to be revealed publicly by Romero or USADA.

Sources said that Romero's team and USADA discussed a deal for a nine-month suspension for the fighter, but Romero preferred to go to arbitration. The typical USADA anti-doping violation suspension is two year and that is what Romero faces if he loses on appeal, sources said. Mirko Cro Cop and Gleison Tibau have each received a two-year ban since the UFC brought in USADA to lead its anti-doping program last July.

This should clue people in on the fact that plenty are still roiding. In fact, once they figure the game out, the ones who've dropped the needle will be picking it back up before long. Since the old rules were soooo lax, not a lot of thought was needed to avoid testing posi. Now, a little more thought, a bit more knowledge, and some tighter math is needed. But that's it. UFC isn't better than Olympic testing and EVERY fucking body uses in the Olympics. The odd man is snagged and put in the public stockade, and the rest keep in keepin' on.

Not much to gasp at here. We're going to get the odd beetle pinned up on the wall.

It does suck he won't be in the title loop now though. A gasser, but Yoel's a dangerous dude, kind of like a heavier Lombard who actually uses his ground game a bit.

Until CIR testing is implemented, pro athletes gonna pro athlete.
Its bizarre how he got suspended for 9 months, now he'll appeal the suspension and risks getting suspended for 2 years!...what the actual fuck

But I mean...Anderson's sex drug defence worked...and Yoel does have a way with words..

CIR test is better, but they'll use it only after they can dope with better shit that it won't detect :p

People go all the way with denial. In sports, it's all about sponsors too I think. Maybe admission of guilt will kill any potential there? Not that there's a ton of that available, since fighters can't wear non-Reebok gear into the octagon, the place where the product is seen the most. I don't know. But people will deny until the end of time. About paper clips, about murder(Of course I deny that I'm a denier myself. And will ten years from now...don't hate the game, cuz)

Yoelked doesn't need a lawyer. Raspy animated Cuban hulk with the shrugs and headband, that's a win in any court in the world.

In principle, of course. I'm just wondering what in the fuck will beat that test. Something, I guess. One thing that will make a scientist roll up his sleeves is funding, and there's clearly a large clientele out there that will pay to beat CIR tests once they become affordable.

About the CIR test, iirc that does a good job in detecting exogenous testosterone (typically made in soya it has less carbon 13 isotopes)...they are experimenting with testosterone production in animal cells though...so that could be a thing.

That's right. Forgot about that. Yep, you're right...they've probably got the counter-move all worked out in preparation for CIR standardization.

I hope he gets 4 years for having the balls to protest the initial punishment.

Actually anyone even ATTEMPTING to use the "tainted supplements" excuse should get 4 years. So lame.
