This is actually a pretty nuanced conversation, but there is no way this show will be that way.

First - was what the show did "healthy"? Absolutely not. Was it trainwreck TV? Absolutely. Did they want the biggest spectacle for ratings? Of course.

At the same time, did the show help a lot of people? Yes. Did it motivate a lot of people? Yes.

Was the show anywhere near accurate? lol not a chance

Did the participants know what they were doing with regards to health? Probably not. Should they have had some semblance of common sense to realize this shit wasn't a good idea? Also yes.

Did most of the contestants gain weight after the show? Yes. Is that the show's fault? No. Is that each individual person's fault? 100%.

I feel like a lot of this won't be touched on, though. Instead, it'll (likely) be about fatphobia, how mean society is to fat people, we should all be more "accpeting", blah blah blah.

They'll likely point out what a hardass Jilian Michaels was, and likely try to find a way to talk shit about her for basically being a conservative.

And just so it's said - Bob Harper looks ROUGH. I know he had a heart attack & such, but dang - time is not being kind to that homo. Jeez.

Thanks, man - I appreciate it.

I actually watched a couple later seasons of the show. Some of it wasn't bad, though the overly emotional bullshit was cringeworthy.

Watching Bob Harper completely adopt Xfit was laughable. And considering who he was training, it was stupid.

Jillian Michaels wasn't bad - I actually appreciated how hard she pushed everyone. Jen Widerstrom and Dolvett Quince both know their stuff.

There was definitely a lot of shit never put on tv. Like the show would tell you contestants were only "allowed" to work out during designated hours & such. That apparently wasn't anywhere near true. Contestants would be on the elliptical for up to 6 hours a day and they'd be cutting water like crazy for their weigh-ins. That's the reason many lost so much up front, then would have only a couple pound fluctuations, would gain weight, etc. Plus they apparently were often barely eating 1500 calories a day or some shit like that.

I'm not saying what the show did was "good".

But the very broad "bad" brush it gets stroked with isn't anywhere near accurate, either.

And I think the contestants not being held accountable for going back to not working out and eating like maniacs after the show gets glossed over or not mentioned because nobody wants to be scorned for "victim blaming".

Thanks for the breakdown
I wouldn’t have watched it but now I have a realistic viewpoint

Also consider our government allowed food corporations to manufacture and deliver us poison masked as food. Why is it people lose weight eating pasta in Europe? Why is it for 30 years children were taught that carbohydrates were the most important food group and why did that same food pyramid contain daily portions allowed for candy and sweets?

Personal responsibility is important. Discipline is important. But when a loaf of bread is made of yoga mat material in one country but from another it's unrefined natural flour and water without flouride and heavy metals in it, what are people supposed to do? For fucks sake they took 50 year old cave cheese from dairy overproduction and cut it into blocks and gave it to poor people as government cheese. Rotten milk fat fucking garbage that should be destroyed.

Discipline can take you far but a community that cares for the health of its people goes even further.
