Frank Robinson passed away yesterday from bone cancer. He was 83.

  • Only player to be named MVP in both the NL (1961, Reds) and the AL (Orioles, 1966)
  • 14 time All-Star
  • Rookie of the Year with the Reds in 1956 when he hit 38 HR and scored 122 runs
  • 586 career home runs (4th all time when he retired behind only Aaron, Ruth and Mays. Currently 10th all time after a few roid-heads jumped in front of him)
  • 1966 Triple Crown winner (.316 avg * 49 HR * 122 RBI)
  • 1975 - 1st black manager in major league history
  • He is 2nd on Cincinnati's all time HR (324, behind only Johnny Bench) and is the Reds all-time leader in slugging (.554)
  • His #20 is retired by 3 teams (Reds, Indians and Orioles)
Over a 21 year career he hit for a .294 average with 2943 hits, 586 HR and 1812 RBI.

I traveled to Washington D.C. a couple years ago with my brother.
I made it a point to drive up to Camden yards one night & get a picture with the Frank Robinson statue.
He was a good man and great player.

RIP pioneer. :baseball:
