Frankie Edgar headed to bantamweight, targets UFC 244 debut (updated)
Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar is moving to the bantamweight division after failing to capture the featherweight title at UFC 240.
Edgar’s (23-7-1 MMA, 17-7-1 UFC) longtime coach Mark Henry confirmed the news to MMA Junkie following a report from ESPN.com. Henry said Edgar hopes to make his 135-pound debut at UFC 244, which takes place Nov. 2 at Madison Square Garden. The coach added no opponent has been specifically targeted.
“I’ve been wanting him to make this move since he first got in the UFC,” Henry said. “It’s dangerous when you’re fighting somebody that much bigger than you.”
Edgar, 37, confirmed the move on his official Instagram page.
Frankie Edgar moving to bantamweight for his next fight in the UFC
Good for him. I love his drive.
Imagine if he had fought at BW his whole career?
Imagine they had a 45 division when he was in his prime. People forget he was the 55 champion at a time when his walkaround weight, and his weigh in weight were the same.
Looking forward to see how Frankie "Two Times" does at this new weight. Hope it goes better than Luke Cuckhold's debut at a different weight lol
We are a forum of respect for fighters. Calling Luke Rockhold, Luke Cockhold is absolute bullshit and juvenile. Take that shit to Sherdog you little fukn fagit.
Kiss my grits...
What the fuck are grits? Lick my nuts you adolescent fuckboy.
You have been reported and I expect you will be banned before you wake up at noon eastern time tomorrow.
Can we get some Frankie vs Cruz?
He had his older brother sign him up for an account here
More like teething.
I was hoping for Frankie to retire but then again, it's Frankie Edgar so I don't mind.
plus Frankie will finally be bigger than his opponents.
my hopeful thought about all this is maybe Frankie can put an end to the cringyness of cejudo
Frankie should have done this after the second Aldo fight
It’s pointless at this time
Agreed. He may have held another belt if he had done so sooner.
Wait until he beats a single opponent ranked at the bottom of the top 10 and gets an immediate title shot. He's already lost 4 title shots in a row and now we'll have to sit through a 5th. It's going to be fucking annoying.
He'll reduce the size disadvantage, but he'll also lose two key elements that his game is based on - speed and cardio advantage. He'll also possibly lose a 3rd pillar, chin, as we've seen weight cuts seemingly impact the ability to take a shot.
Frankie vs. Cruz then both retire.
They need to ban cutting. This is just fucking stupid......... Reminds me of Kenny Florian...
Him vs. Faber for Interim Champ ?
