Guybson Sa is moving his academy to a large space in Columbia SC, and is hosting an open mat to be followed by a great black belt invitational. If you attend the open mat, the entire event is free. There should be a large number of good grapplers at the open mat, and the tournament has some very talented black belts in it. I plan to be there (if I can shake the plague I currently have). Anyone else thinking of attending?

Tomorrow is the big day, but we are expected to get the largest snowfall here in SC in over a decade tonight, so i might not be able to make it to Columbia in the morning. I grew up driving in snow country in upstate NY, and drive a big 4 wheel drive duality that is great in the snow; but the DOT does not have much snow clearing equipment around here, and most people have no idea how to drive in the snow and have balding non-snow tires on their cars.
Hopefully this storm pans out to be a non-event.

Doc I said that about that crazy snow storm a couple of years ago in Dallas, I was trying to get to a seminar I was teaching there.... Long and short, three delayed flights and no seminar.... And my luggage got stolen (lost my first black belt in it)

@Rhino I lucked out. The snow pretty much stayed north/west of I-85, so we only got about an inch of snow and just a little ways east of us the roads were clear. Two friends and former training partners of mine that now train across town went down to Columbia with me, and we had a blast. The open mat was huge. Guybson has his gym set up like an IBJJF competition mat with red and black Zebra mats sectioned into 6 rings. Tons of space. There were lots of good guys there rolling from all around the area and some that came from other states. I got some great rolls in with skilled guys, and a couple of fighters that I know from working their fights. The black belt tournament wound up being a field of 12 since a few guys could not get down here because of the weather and Chad hurt recently.
I will post some pictures shortly, and if I can get the link to work I will post the Facebook live stream of the tournament.
Jacob McClintock (owner of tick-tock BJJ in Charleston) won the tournament. There were some great matches.
It was a great day.
