So for those of you who aren't hip hop fans out there, the diss track has been a thing since forever. From Boogie Down Productions' beef with The Juice Crew to LL Cool J's beef with Kool Moe Dee to Biggie and Tupac to Jay Z and Nas to Ja Rule and 50 Cent to Meek Millz and Drake, the diss track has a way of reigniting excitement in a genre that grew up around freestyle battling in the street.

The other day Remy Ma dropped a dis track called Shether (a throwback nod to Nas' classic track Ether coming after Jay Z) aimed at Nicki Minaj who she's been beefing with for a few years. In all my years listening to hip hop (my whole life, which pretty much coincides with the lifespan of the genre), I have never heard a track so savage. There are a lot of big, important things happening in the world and in the grand scheme of things, this beef is not at all important, but the only place I've heard this kind of evisceration is in the British Parliament or on an episode of The Golden Girls.

Enjoy.

Good track, but I'm not really familiar with their beef. Do you think it's true Eminem invited Lil Wayne on his track just to diss him?

Usually these tracks aren't my favourite because it can be a whole bunch of posturing and threats that never have any value in them. Older ones from the late 80s and early 90s seemed to have more substance to them besides idol threats.

Love this one directed at LL Cool J, always gotta rap along with it. Here's the best part of the song imo

I'm bigger and better, forget about deffer
Every time I rocked the mic, I left a
Stain in your brain that will remain
Stuck in the back of your brain till you see me
Again, respect, I come correct
The rhymes I select are nothing short of perfect
Vernacular's pure and I can ensure
Life or death with my breath, my voice is a cure
I heal life from the words I spread
I'll make a sick man rock on his death bed
Sucker MC's , I'll make your girl say "ow"
And she's jockin'
How ya like me now?

Another great one is by DJ Quik

Eazy E was ruthless on Dre. Awesome beat that just screams west coast gangsta era

Nah not really. Ether finished the beef back then but it hasn't aged well. I agree with Charlemagne that it's basically just a bunch of "oh you're gay" cuts and "I'm better." Ether has some memorable lines, but this one cut much deeper imo.
It was 2 and a half minutes longer... It had better say something in it. Of course, the first minute of it is just talking about Nikki getting ass injections and not giving head when she couldn't have sex.

Nas basically called Jay a bitch and then treated him like a disappointed father talking to a little kid. Just like "why are you making me do this to you?"

Hit 'Em Up was great.

Starting a track with "First off, fuck your bitch and the clique you claim" is just verbally kicking in the front door and announcing that you're there to fuck things up.

One of those guys is still around. I'll let you guess which one.
I've seen you post a few times supporting LL. He's been incredibly successful but anything after 1995 is just far too feminine for me to listen to. His tracks from 1990 and earlier are much better.

His best diss track was in 2000.
