Only mental gymnastics happening are the ones his fans have been doing for a decade to keep him relevant.
I think all the top mma fighters in the world calling him out might be doing a better job of that.

They're doing that for an easy money win, because he's a name that draws a lot of attention.

Because of his fans.

Cormier struggled to get Jones down. CORMIER. Brock has wrestling, but not on DC's level, and certainly not on a level high enough to cause Jones any issue.
wut? what makes you think that? should check out Brock's wrestling credentials, I mean DC was wrestling for waay longer but it's not any better than Brock in terms of wrestling accomplishments.

not to mention, DC wrestled at lighter weight but Brock wrestled at HW

that's irrelevant cuz Brock didn't wrestle for the olympics. look at their college accomplishments though.

besides, DC didn't win anything in the real olympics anyway

He won medals was in non Olympic years and was team Captain in 2006 or 2008 and only didn't compete because of a medical issue.

It's super relevant. The only thing Brock has over him in wrestling is that he's won Hell in a Cell matches 🤣

He also defended the Heavyweight title twice as many times.

Edit My bad doesn’t have anything to do with wrestling

yea but in terms of comparing their wrestling skills, it doesn't say much.

Brock just went the other route, if he had continued to wrestled like Cormier, Brock is fully capable of doing what Cormier accomplished. Look at Brock's college record.

"It doesn't matter that Cormier accomplished more because Brock could have if he wanted to" isn't a great argument.

there were thousands of guys who were 'capable' of doing what Cormier did, but none of them did it.

I don't think you understand the gap between "best in college this year" and "best in the world this year"

Regardless of how someone feels about Brock. He was a generational type athlete in his prime. It's naive to think he couldn't have made an Olympic team if he decided to persue that route.

he won a single National Championship in his senior year, in arguably the least competitive division in American Folkstyle wrestling.

He was good, but he's not on the level of Steve Mocco or Cole Konrad

This is some fine revisionist history.

you're not considering "if Brock continued to wrestle..."

plus Cormier didn't win the best of the world, was like Pan Am games and other stuff he won Bronze

you're exaggerating how much more it matters in MMA if you wrestled much longer, it's about how you utilize it in MMA, Cormier is great against guys who were less-skilled than him, but he couldn't take down guys like Jones or Miocic, both have lesser accomplishments in wrestling than DC
