Hey guys, I don't know if any of you remember me, but I need help with something. My new life dream is to buy/build a boat to sail around the world. And I need a boat slip for that. So I was on facebook looking for boat slips. And I found one not far from me! 45’ boat slip. I looked up how big a boat you’d want to sail the Pacific (and obviously if you can sale the Pacific you can sail the world), and 30’ is about the min. So a 45 boat is plenty. So this slip could handle a boat that could sale the world!!!

AND it comes with a free boat! 34’. So it can probably sail the world too LOL. When its fixed up. Its undoubtedly a piece of shiat. Below is what the add says. $20k purchase, $89 monthly fees, and ~$100 of taxes annually, seems totally fine to make me a boat owner. Even if I have to give the boat away because its such a piece of shit LOL. 20k with permanent easy access to the ocean for a BIG boat? I'll take it! I think LOL.

Thoughts? Anything I should be concerned about? Please tell me all the bad shit I’d be getting into lol!

Thanks!

THE ADD:

"boat type: powerboat

propulsion type: power

condition: good

length overall (LOA): 34

make / manufacturer: Uniflight

year manufactured: 1978

Selling a 45 foot LIVE ABOARD SLIP, with LOW LOW $89/month maintenance fee! It’s a 45’x16’ depending on tide draft is anywhere from 5ft deeded property that you own! Annual property taxes run about $100/year!

The maintenance fees cover water and internet Why rent a slip for $400+ a month when you can own it and pay a fraction! PLUS, when you go to sell, someday, you’re gonna be able to sell it, as any other real estate!

You can live there on the boat that comes with the slip, (virtually a free boat!) it’s a 34’ Uniflight! Both 454 chevy gas motors ran when last started, about 3 yrs. ago! As I’ve gotten older, I just don’t get down there much. Time to let it go.

It’s got 2 new a/c units and one used all work, very cold! Comes also with large anchor

Boat comes with clear title!

She’s got a queen size bed! Aging kept me away from boating these past 3 years. She’ll need cleaning, but she’s livable.

FIRM PRICE. I’m not going to barter or lower my price.

You’re buying the boat slip AND getting the boat for free! You can sell or give boat away. You can do what you will with the boat after purchasing the slip! Heck, donate it to charity for a tax deduction. Or make it your condo (literally) on the water! "

I sailed around the world as a kid with my parents so I may be able to help with some things. (On a 45 foot yaught)
I do remember you. Epic troller.

45 foot is to big to single hander. You will need a very capable companion.

Not sure if you know what a slip is ?
It's where you take the boat out of the water and work on the hull.
It sounds like your describing a marina or mooring.

This is not really stuff I'd recommend dabbling in. Boats can cost a lot of money so you're going to need your income sorted and commit to learning a lot about boats and sailing.
It can be cruzy but if you don't know what you're doing you can easily wind up dead.

Bungee up, thanks a ton! I really appreciate the help. But, I must say, I've never, EVER trolled. About anything. But, tons of thanks for helping with this.

Are you sure about the meaning of "slip"? Seemed pretty clear to me from the add that its in the water, ready to launch. Just did a quick google, found this link:

Seems like a boat slip can mean a place in the water for you to park your boat.

Let's assume that is what it is. Obviously, if it was just some place to work on a boat on dry land, I wouldn't buy it.

So any thoughts on $20k for a price of a boat slip? Forget about the "free boat". Does $20k just for a slip sound like a good/decent deal? I looked on facebook, and didn't find any slips much cheaper, and lots were more money.

I have spare cash, and "investing" in a slip seems reasonable enough to me, even if I never go forward with anything boating related. I already have too much in the stock market, don't want to add more.

Thanks again so far!!!

This thread is everything the internet needs. It's got poor communication, bad spelling, incomplete sentences, tons of excitement for no reason, and potential death. I'm here for the sale!

I'm very sure about that. However I'm Australian maybe it's a language thing. You Americans must have different lingos.
What do you call slipping your boat then.
Dry docking or something?
I've heard that term before. That's probably what is ment by it.

Terrible investment unless you plan to live there on the boat.
You'd have to check the condition of it . Location ect. Nothing regarding boat's is an investment on your money you'd expect to make a return on.
